re-installation of Wordpress

Hi
I have just deleted the files for an old version of Wordpress which was working correctly, because I wanted to completely redesign it.
I then uploaded the files of the latest edition for a fresh installation of the latest version. Now I am getting this message:
Premature end of script headers: install.php and can't even get started with configuring it. I have tried various settings for file permissions.
Can anyone give me some guidance?

I suspect that will be file permissions related, more information in the CGI Platform PHP Upgrade FAQ.
A step by step installation guide for WordPress is given in the Setup guides for Joomla or Wordpress thread. You should already have done most of those steps. I recommend using Gabe's script for setting file permissions.
