phpyMyAdmin slow

Although the PN MySQL servers seem to be very fast the phpMyAdmin interface to them is a bit slow... no make that terribly slow.  Is there any chance of doing anything to make it faster as its basically unusable.

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

I'm not a fan of it anyway to be honest.
With every server I've used it on it has always randomly slowed down for unknown reasons before randomly speeding up again. Sadly there isn't really any alternative to phpmyadmin Sad
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Over 60 seconds to login .... that's beyond a joke.

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

phpMyAdmin login took 17 seconds for me - repeated after logout with same result. Time to access tables seemed normal.

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

Well it speeded up slightly - but 17 seconds is still a joke

MySQL Administrator and MySQL Query Browser (you have to get them from the archives - not the current MySQL Workbench) work well.
Edit: To access the MySQL servers directly from you local PC you use rumpus.plus.net and humbug.plus.net as the server names

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

A guy in the CSC has just approached me about this to ask if I knew of any problems. I don't, but then I saw this thread. I'll try and find out what's going on...
Edit: the database responsible for authentication is pretty old and needs upgrading, but there shouldn't really have been an increase in take up for the service as we no longer offer it on new accounts. Keep on eye on things and if the situation worsens/doesn't get better then I'll raise a problem on it. If people know roughly when this started becoming an issue then that might help pinpoint what caused it?

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

Bob, that's probably because I raised it as a ticket.
The problem has been going on since I started this thread.
Here's a Firebug Net Trace for me logging in:
http://www.pemmaquid.plus.com/phpmyadmin.png
Once I've logged in it takes about 8 seconds to select a table

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

Is anyone else experiencing this? I got my ticket responded to at some very odd time this morning (not sure exactly when because the support ticket times are completely off) stating that there seemed to be no problems and suggesting I tried a different computer  Undecided

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

Using humbug
login 18.9 seconds
select table with 11,000 rows 7.6 seconds
second table with just 4 rows 41.6 seconds, most of which seemed to be waiting for server response, then 5 seconds to complete
third table with 12,250 rows 6.8 seconds.

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

I have started using PhpGedView on humbug. Thought it was properly named as it seemed so slow. However perhaps it is not me. One problem it causes is that the initial page takes ages to load completely and until all the wheels have stopped turning you can not log in. Get a message that Cookies are not enabled, which is nonsense as in Firefox they are on by default

Those look very similar to my timings - and I'm on Humbug... .so that's three of us on there with lousy timings....

Re: phpyMyAdmin slow

Just compared times on rumpus and humbug
rumpus login 10.0 and 10.6 seconds (repeated after checking humbug)
select table with 24450 rows 4.5 seconds - didn't repeat select tables
select another table with 284 rows 3.7 seconds
select third table with 27480 rows 3.9 seconds
humbug login 17.5 and 17.1 seconds (after repeat check on rumpus)
select table with 23500 rows 27.8 seconds but (different table) 6.3 seconds on second login
select another table with 2 rows 33.5 seconds but (different table) 5.9 seconds on second login
select third table with 27500 rows 39.3 seconds but (different table) 6.3 seconds on second login
So it looks as though humbug is generally slower, but speed can vary a lot within a short time.
