index.php not recognised

I have uploaded a Joomla package and it's php files are not being recognised. I get an index list instead of a website.
I activated my CGI over a day ago and it still can't access my Joomla site. It said that I should receive an email after 4 hours to confirm activation etc. which I have not received as yet.

Re: index.php not recognised

Did you upload the files to ftp.plus.net (the standard webserver that does not support php) or cshell.plus.net, the CGI server?

Re: index.php not recognised

I am not sure. I will have to check when I get home tomorrow.
I am a ex Force9 customer and I know I didn't upload to any cshell.plus.net
How do I upload to cshell.plus.net? Is via ftp and where do I get the settings from.

Are you still a Force9/Plusnet broadband user?

Re: index.php not recognised

cshell.plus.net is the ftp server. If you are on a force9 account it's cshell.force9.net. You have to be connected using Plusnet/Force9 to access the server.

Re: index.php not recognised

Hi Salaamf9
Once you've uploaded to your CGI space, remember that you'll need to go to a different URL to see the site (it sounds like you've uploaded and are viewing your standard webspace)
The address details you need are here (remember to change the dropdown at the top of the page to Force9):
http://www.plus.net/support/hosting/webspace/webspace_details.shtml
As jelv points out, you'll need to FTP your Joomla files to cshell.force9.net and you'll be able to see the installation at http://ccgi.username.force9.co.uk.
You'll probably also need to change the permissions on some of your files as detailed in the link.

Re: index.php not recognised

Have you also initiated mySQL which is needed for Joomla?

Re: index.php not recognised

Thanks for your replies,
My mySQL has been activated for a long time now.
I have uploaded the files to cshell.force9.net
I now get
Access forbidden! Error 403
I have changed the permissions to 640 and then to 777 but still no joy.

Re: index.php not recognised

Hi SalaamF9,
See section 6 of the FAQ for the necessary permissions. There's a link from there to a script that can set them for you.

Re: index.php not recognised

Thanks
I uploaded the .cgi file and got a table with these headings:
Type, Name, User, Group, Permissions
But I still get error 403

Re: index.php not recognised

Is your joomla site in a subfolder of your root folder?

Re: index.php not recognised

Okay, if you drag Joomla-aam out of the cgi-bin folder so that it sits next to it under / you should be able to see your site at http://ccgi.username.force9.co.uk/Joomla-aam/

Noooooooooooo!!!!!! PHP files must not go in cgi-bin or any subdirectory under it!
