.htaccess not working on my CGI active webspace

Hello guys... wondering if you could help me on this 1 if possible..
Kinda new the the .htaccess password protection thing but I'm pretty quick to pick things up..
Spent 10mins reading the guides and managed to get it working fine on my standard WWW web space but not on the CGI active space?
I know the command in Telnet and I have changed the route in the .htaccess file to look in the correct place along with changing the permissons on the files.
Wen browsing to the actual linke itself It brings up the username and password box fine (just like it did on the standard WWW Space) but.... *here comes the but*..
403 Forbidden error - "You don't have permission to access /xxxx/ on this server."
any ideas guys? cheers
P.S. - there are a few .jpg files in the folder in question.

What are the permission on the xxx folder and it's contents?
Can you access files outside the one containing the .htaccess / .htpasswd file?

Re: .htaccess not working on my CGI active webspace

Do you have an index file in the directory you're protecting? If not, and you don't specify a file to retrieve, then you will get a forbidden error on CCGI, it's set up differently to the "normal" webspace.
