.htaccess not visible

I've just written my .htaccess file and uploaded it to my ccgi space.
Normally, I use LeechFTP to FTP files to and from, but recently it stopped working with the ccgi server, so I've had to resort to Windows Explorer which, to my amazement, worked. However, after uploading the .htaccess file it is not visible, which the guide (http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/5) said it would not be. The problem is, I do not know how to switch the -a in Windows Explorer (or Leech, for that matter - but I haven't investigated that as it stopped working).
Would Putty show up the file? Or can someone recommend another good, free, FTP client that will do the trick?
Cheers,
Gerald.
