hit counter

Can anyone tell me why I can't see my hit counter on my home page. Built site using Front Page, but the counter is red crossed.

Re: hit counter

If you are attempting to use Frontpage extensions (which includes a hit counter), rather than an independent hit counter facility, then this will be the source.
We do not operate web hosting facilities that supports Frontpage extensions and will as a result, display as a red cross indicating a missing resource within your page.

Re: hit counter

Did you notice when the hit counter started to fail - was it recent?

Re: hit counter

Hi Phil, curious. On my wesite setting panel I have cgi, sql, advanced webstats, my webspace & Frontpage Extensions (with the MS FP icon). If i click onto the FP icon it reads: Current status, your FP webspace is active. Is there anyway that the hit counter can be activated or how can I 'import' a hit counter from another source.
Many thanks, Mick

Re: hit counter

Hi Jelv, it's never worked but I've only had my website up & running for about a week.
Many thanks, Mick.

Re: hit counter

Hi Mick,
The presence of the Frontpage icon is something I am currently investigating for removal from all accounts, due to the very confusion this has prompted yourself here.
I am currently undertaking investigation that simply removing it is not going to break anything else.

Re: hit counter

Assuming your website is on Homepages you can add a hit counter as described here.

Re: hit counter

Hi Spraxyt, many thanks for your reply & the link. Being a dummy please can you expand on this, where do I type the string as to me it looks like a doctors prescription.
Best regards, Mick.

Re: hit counter

You need to visit that help page, copy the complete <img .... /> tag shown and paste it into the HTML code for your page at the place you want the counter to appear. Then replace "username" by your own username (the one you use to log into the Plusnet Member Centre). Save the amended page and upload it to your Homepages webspace.
The counter should then appear on your page.

Re: hit counter

Once again many thanks, I'll try that when I get home. I thought that I'd have a look at webstat as that should give me the number oh hits. When I went to website settings/advanced webstats & clicked on www.paternosterlodge.co.uk an error 404 not found appeared. Do I have to install the webilizer program first?
Best regards Mick

Re: hit counter

You will need to remove the current hit counter code which I assume was added using Frontpage 4, then add the <img ... /> tag in its place.
The existing hit counter code has a mangled reference to content on your own computer C: drive, but I doubt it would work on Homepages even if that was sorted out.
You don't need to install Webalizer to view your site's webstats. You do need to activate webstats first - have you done that? Then nothing will show until the next day when the webstats collection program has run; this automatically runs in the early hours.

Re: hit counter

Thanks again for the extra info on the hit counter. With regard to webstats, my current status reads 'webstats are active for your site(s), but I still get a 404 error message ' the webpage cannot be found when I click onto my www. Any ideas or do I have to raise a ticket?
best regards, Mick

Re: hit counter

Webstats not appearing when the Member Centre says they are enabled sounds like an incorrect setting somewhere that Plusnet would have to fix. I think you'd have to raise a ticket to get that checked.
Alternatively you could try turning them off, wait a day then turn them on again and check the following day. Up to you which route you want to try. Undecided

Re: hit counter

Hi this is a message for Phil. Please don't remove the FP icon as im sure that'll affect something. Remember the saying 'don't fix it if it ain't broken'.

Re: hit counter

It shouldn't be there as the Frontpage servers were taken out of service on Thursday 26th November 2009. The icon being there means it is broken!
