domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

Hi - mods please move back to email as this is a email related question
Has anyone transferred their Plus Net hosted domain to point THEIR EMAIL to  outlook.com using domains.live.com?
I have had a look but it looks scary - MX records I can cope with, but here (and sorry for the length) is what I am presented with to finish the process.
Quote
Mail setup (required)
To set up mail and prove ownership of this domain, you must create an MX record through your domain registrar. Use the following settings:
DNS record type: MX
Host: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk
MX server: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
TTL: 3600 or 1 hour
Priority: 10 (or High priority)
Prove domain ownership (optional)
If you would like to prove the ownership of domain and create users without setting up mail, you can use one of the following methods for up to 30 days. After 30 days, you will need to set up an MX record for mail routing as shown above.
If your domain registrar allows you to create TXT records, use these settings:
DNS record type: TXT
Host: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk
Value: v=msv1 t=706e3b7a60d0874e8dc30b08472fb3
If your domain registrar allows you to create MX records, use these settings:
DNS record type: MX
Host: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk
Value: 706e3b7a60d0874e8dc30b08472fb3.msv1.invalid
Priority: Higher value than existing records, or Low priority.
Server trust (recommended)
Create a TXT record to allow other mail servers to trust email originating from your domain. Also known as sender ID configuration, this setting will help prevent your mail from being marked as junk mail. Use the following settings:
DNS record type: TXT
Host: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk
Value: v=spf1 include:hotmail.com ~all
TTL: 3600 or 1 hour (if requested)
Messenger configuration (recommended)
To federate Messenger with other compatible networks, you need to create the following SRV record in DNS.
DNS record type: SRV
Service: _sipfederationtls._tcp xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxr.co.uk
Protocol: _tcp
Domain Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk
Priority: 10 (or High priority)
Weight: 2
Port: 5061
Target: federation.messenger.msn.com

This bit should be fairly trivial. When logged into our website navigate to Domain names > Click Configure > Change 'Email Settings' to 'Other' > Click Configure DNS records > Add MX record > Click 'Add'

As mentioned this is optional. You won't be able to do it because we don't support the addition of TXT records.

Not sure why you need this as well as the first record but there's no harm adding it. Just make sure it's a lower priority than the other record you've added (the higher the number, the lower the priority so set 'Pri' to 15 or something like that for this record).

Again, you can't add TXT records so you can ignore this.

You can't do this either so don't worry about it.

Re: domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

Many thanks - I'll give it a go for one of the domains I have (the one you kindly gave us when you had your accident with webmail  Roll_eyes ) and see how it goes.

Re: domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

Mmm did the MX record 48 hours ago and it still looks like it is getting sent to Plus Net - did I miss anything?

Re: domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

Hey,
Head over to http://www.mxtoolbox.com/
Put in your domain, lookup the MX, if it's anything relating to "plus.net" or "plus.com" then you'll need to ensure that your domain options are set to "Semi-Automatic" otherwise it will ignore any custom DNS records that you have set.
Hope this helps,
Matt

Re: domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

Yep - that helped - shows I have done my bit right, but for some reason the MS side has failed.  The host entered still appears invalid.
I was only having a play anyway, to see what the service offered.
I may have another go
Cheers

Re: domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

I can see what's wrong. You've not entered the MX record correctly. You need a qualifying dot at the end of the right-hand entry. Without this, your domain will be appended to the end of the record (you'll have noticed this when using the MX Lookup website Matt pointed you towards).
I've corrected the record for you so check back in a day or two and see if you have any more luck.

Re: domains.live.com and Plus Net Hosted domains

Bob
Many thanks, that did it.  I mis-read the bit about the fullstop at the end -  assumed that it is sometimes missed when cutting and pasting if it was on the original source, not that it would need adding regardless.
Anyway, it all works - I have no idea if MS offer anything worth using, but I thought I'd give it a try
Cheers
