cshell.plus.net down?

Hi
For some reason I'm not able to access this via ftp today - I could yesterday - I now get...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Could not connect to server
Is this a general problem today?  I've searched to see if there's an announcement but can't find one?
Thanks

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

We've not made any announcement on this as we're not aware of any issues. We've attempted logging in from here too and that was without issues and nothing is showing in our monitoring software.
Would you be able to try logging in via command prompt? Open a command prompt and type 'ftp cshell.plus.net' (without the quotes) and it should prompt you for a username/password.
Anyone else seeing issues attempting to log in to CGI?

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

HI
I've never used command prompt before - is it something I have to download?
Thanks

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

Hi mssavvy,
No command prompt is part of Windows (we're assuming your using windows).
The easiest way to access it is by going to start, then run and type the letters 'CMD', or if your using Vista or Windows 7 just go to start, then search for 'command prompt'.
Once you've got that far just follow Chris' instructions and let us know if you have any problems.

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

Hi
Thanks - gave this a go but I got:
Connected to cshell.plus.net.
Connection closed by remote host.
This is the same as I've been getting with ftp, as everytime I try to connect I get:
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
Is this something you can help with?
Thanks

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

Are you connecting from a Plusnet Internet connection at the moment or are you trying to access it from elsewhere?

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

Are you on a fixed IP or variable IP? If variable try disconnecting and reconnecting and see if you get a new IP and if that makes a difference. (http://www.whatsmyip.org/ will tell you your IP)
If you still can't connect post your IP address with the last quartet asterisked and we'll see if there is anyone else on the same range that can or can't get in.

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

I tried connecting from the office (not on Plusnet) and it just timed out so I suspect that for some reason the cshell ftp server isn't set up for your range.
Is anyone on an IP near 84.51.18*.*** ? If so could they try opening a command prompt and typing 'ftp cshell.plus.net' (without the quotes). It should prompt you for a username/password (it doesn't matter whether you use ccgi or not - we just want to know if you get the username prompt or not).

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

Hi
It's been ok all this week?  My connection is excellent otherwise?
I need to go out soon but will check the forum when I get back.  However, what should I do if it can't be solved here?
Thanks

Re: cshell.plus.net down?

Can you open any other ftp sites without problems? (the normal homepages server ftp.plus.net would be a good one to try)
