cannot upload to website

I am trying to upload webpages using a ftp server terrapin onto my freeserve webspace for the first time, all I get is a message 'server refused list request'. anyone any ideas what ( i'm doing) is wrong.

Try either a passive or active connection i.e the oposite of what you currently have set. You should be able to select this within the connection set-up pages (don't know the FTP client so can't be more specific).
Failing that, try the DOS command line version ftp.exe ( ftp <ftp URL> then enter username and password for your FTP connection)
I assume they allow connections from non-wanadoo connections?

Sorry if this is obvious, but it was a mistake I made at first. Make sure you're ftp'ing to the htdocs folder.

Might be worth contacting them to see if they allow connections from outside their network.
