I loaded the software into my cgi area but was using the url of myowndomain
ie http://www.mydomain.co.uk/cgi-bin/guestbook/guestbook.cgi which brought up a page but wasnt working correctly..
i then used http://ccgi.username.plus.com/cgi-bin/guestbook/guestbook.cgi and that works just fine.
I suppose really i need to find out if i can use ccgi part with my oown domain name ie cggi.mydomain.co.uk
thanks

Possibly someone can help to alter the .htaccess so that it will work for you (/cgi-bin/guestbook/).

After all that though, I'm tending to move towards CMS now and there's loads of free stuff available for Joomla CMS and it's faily painless to get into.
My joomla site is a bit of a hybrid at the moment putting Active scripts pages into a 'wrapper' on the site until I get proper Joomla pages sorted for the same things.
You can see both in operation here:- http://www.bromsgroverfc.co.uk

It is php based and anyone making an entry needs to read the image text and enter it to proceed.
Its easy to set up and works like a charm.

The first guestbook I ever used was a perl scripted one, and in the end I got fed up of editing its pages to remove the links to porn sites that were appearing several time a day.
The one I use now doesn't allow direct links and if anyone persists and actually goes to the trouble of trying to manualy write in a url its very easy to remove the entry with a click of the mouse.
