Re: active-scripts guestbook

Re: active-scripts guestbook

ok, it is working and it is most probably my understanding of how to use my webspace and my cgi space..
I loaded the software into my cgi area but was using the url of myowndomain
ie  http://www.mydomain.co.uk/cgi-bin/guestbook/guestbook.cgi which brought up a page but wasnt working correctly..
i then used http://ccgi.username.plus.com/cgi-bin/guestbook/guestbook.cgi and that works just fine.
I suppose really i need to find out if i can use ccgi part with my oown domain name ie  cggi.mydomain.co.uk
thanks

Re: active-scripts guestbook

The redirect will have to be done with .htaccess. I'd love to tell you how, but I cannot figure out how to redirect into a subdirectory. I only found out how to redirect into a directory on ccgi: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,1280.0.html
Possibly someone can help to alter the .htaccess so that it will work for you (/cgi-bin/guestbook/).

Re: active-scripts guestbook

Yes, the second guestbook can go into a different directory e.g. /guestbook1. Depends also on which type of guestbook you use, no clue about that.

Re: active-scripts guestbook

Try Active scripts 'powerbook' it is far more versatile. I use it for loads of things including a guest book. Also, Anthony at active scripts is very helpful with queries and in my experience he's willing to add mods and stuff that you suggest if it's possible.
After all that though, I'm tending to move towards CMS now and there's loads of free stuff available for Joomla CMS and it's faily painless to get into.
My joomla site is a bit of a hybrid at the moment putting Active scripts pages into a 'wrapper' on the site until I get proper Joomla pages sorted for the same things.
You can see both in operation here:- http://www.bromsgroverfc.co.uk

Re: active-scripts guestbook

For those wanting a guest book that doesn't get spammed all the time by the viagra peddlers then I suggest this one
It is php based and anyone making an entry needs to read the image text and enter  it to proceed.
Its easy to set up and works like a charm.

Re: active-scripts guestbook

Powerbooks latest iteration has an anti spam security system and so far not been floored by flooding.

Re: active-scripts guestbook

Thats good to know  Wink
The first guestbook I ever used was a perl scripted one, and in the end I got fed up of editing its pages to remove the links to porn sites that were appearing several time a day.
The one I use now doesn't allow direct links and if anyone persists and actually goes to the trouble of trying to manualy write in a url its very easy to remove the entry with a click of the mouse.  Smiley
