What's the point?

According to the latest news fibre broadband will finally become available here in my part of west Wales by the end of this year. Better late than never if it actually happens as it was 'promised' to be up and running by March 2015.

The long standing issue I have with slow speeds over the existing copper cable though seems increasingly unlikely to be resolved any time soon, and I am beginning to wonder what's the point of spending so much time trying to fix my line if in a short while it's going to be made redundant. It has to be sorted I suppose but just taking my own experience as an example it must be costing somebody a heck of a lot of money trying to keep the working. Four months worth of communication and time spent by BT and plusnet, three lots of traffic lights, at least ten engineers to the house plus, full refunds so far for not providing a service paid for, adds up to quite a lot of both time and money.

Crazy days.

Re: What's the point?

Assuming you're getting FTTC and not FTTP your current copper won't be redundant. FTTC uses the same copper between the cabinet and the premises Embarrassed

Re: What's the point?

Indeed, but 'my' cabinet (complete with door hanging off) is about two miles away and the exchange is a further two - it will not remain as copper cable surely? The BT pole just outside the house now has a huge coil of thick black cable hanging from it so fingers crossed for FTTP :-)
