To save the trouble of switching to another host, I would like to rent additional webspace.
PlusNet allows payment for extra bandwidth usage, so why not allow payment for extra webspace?
No smileys: we're British.

The webspace offered compared to other ISPs is generous and does still cost money to supply 'free' with your broadband connection. Hosting packages are very cheap no-a-days and, as I suspect it is likely you will want even more in future, a specialist hosting service is they way to go.

Quote from: Peter This has been discussed several times but so far PN have not said if this is something they intend to offer in the future.
We kind of offer it now, but it wouldn't be associated with your PN account - Pay As You Host.

However, the PAYH webspace and bandwidth limits are hopelessly un-competitive - for £40 per annum elsewhere I can have 3 GB of webspace and 100 GB monthly usage.
I'm disappointed that there's no evidence of any interest in this avenue towards further business.

I was exploring a few of its skins only yesterday. Now
I'll see whether there are some that will match my needs.
Klyne - Yes - I'd go for option 5.

Quote from: klyne Those of us with hobby websites don't always generate a lot of traffic but do require space. What we really need is an Option 5 account with the same amount of webspace as the business account. Makes sense to me!!!!

Agree! Agree! Agree!
I want everything as it is but instead of 250MB ccgi I want 500MB. Just to put it into perspective, a CD has 750MB, my memory-stick has 1GB and my friends memory card 8GB. There is no point asking me to move to another hoster as this would drive me insane with all the settings, special-PlusNet-settings etc to be redone. There is a life going on and it is not to be wasted with fiddling on and on with the webpages.

Quote from: Peter It's not that they don't want to do this sort of thing, its just not possible with their back-end systems. They would need a lot of development effort to make the necessary changes to allow billing and management of it, and given the very long development stack already, and the number of people who are likely to want this (small), I can't see it commercially feasible at this time.
Peter
Not quite sure I understand all the Tech speak there but how can you provide 500mb of space with the Pro Option but you can't with Option 4? I don't think anyone argues that PN is not generous with the amount of space it already gives, in fact that was one of the main reasons for me changing from BT to PN. I suppose a sort of Parkinson's Law applies as the more space you have the more you will use it! I don't think that PN need go to all the bother of introducing extra charges for so much extra webspace but just have a option (like Pro) that includes it. Clearly such an option would cost more , that is appreciated.

It's down to what the back-end systems allow you to add and manage for a package, adding additional webspace is not part of the system. Software has to be written to support selection of webspace and its associated billing and it is the cost and time for this that would not be commercially viable.

Quote from: Peter Because development work was done to add a new BBYW Pro package with 500MB of webspace and its associated allowances and all Pro packages get this.
Not to my knowledge. I am on BBYW Pro and only get 250Mb allowance. Even the Pro webpage states 250Mb. The only package I see that offers 500Mb web space is the the Business packages at £34.99 ex VAT.
