Website blocked

https://wiki.lspace.org/ is blocked from my plusnet internet connection

I can open it fine using 4G, or from work, but not at home

Not been able to access chat support for months (just says 'not available at this time')

How do I get this unblocked?

Re: Website blocked

Hi @chrisboote

Thanks for getting in touch.

When this website is blocked, what error message is displayed?

This sounds like it may be being blocked by Safeguard, which you can amend to allow the site here

Best wishes

Dave

Re: Website blocked

Hello Randall

I'm not using safeguard, and ther people I know with PlusNet get the same error - implying it's blocked by PlusNet globally

I can access it without issue from work or using 4G on my 'phone

The error is "Hmm we seem to be having trouble finding that site. We can't connect to the server at wiki.lspace.org"

Re: Website blocked

Hi @chrisboote

Thanks for the clarity.

Could you switch your router off this evening before you go to sleep and turn it back on again tomorrow morning?

This sounds like it could be an IP range issue - turning the router off overnight (or for over four hours if it's convenient) should force the router to refresh the IP address and allow access.

If that doesn't help, let us know and we'll look at adding a static IP to see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks

Dave

@chrisboote

@RandallFlagg

Just checked the site using my PN static IP and no luck with similar message to the OP.

No problems accessing from mobile which is EE.

Re: Website blocked

Thanks for checking this, @Mav

This is an odd one as I can access the site perfectly from this side.

As a fellow Discworld fan, this pains me a great deal - I'll check this from my home connection this evening to see if I get the same issue.

@christboote - could you please attempt the IP refresh overnight/this evening and if this persists we'll raise this with our network team?

Thanks

Dave

Re: Website blocked

@RandallFlagg Dave, most odd!

Using nslookup, wiki.lspace.org doesnt resolve via either the standard ( 212.159.13.49 ) or alternate ( 212.159.6.9 ) PlusNet DNS servers. It DOES resolve from the Safeguard ( 213.120.234.42 ) one though. It also resolves fine via OpenDNS.

Very strange ...

Re: Website blocked

I just tested this from my home Plusnet connection and it works.  Will take a closer look tomorrow when I'm in the office.

Re: Website blocked

Hi Chris, as a workaround you could try accessing the website by going to 52.168.148.33 although it won't be a https secure way of browsing. Let us know how it goes.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Website blocked

A better workaround would be to add this to your hosts file.  Then it would be ssl.

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/27350/beginner-geek-how-to-edit-your-hosts-file/

Bear in mind though that if their IP address changed, this would stop working and you'd need to update the entry to the new IP.

Mean while, we can see something odd is happening here and we're taking a look.  It migh be something wrong with the hosts DNS configuration, rather than anything under our control, but we should ensure there isn't something odd happening in our infrastructure.

Re: Website blocked

Using the IP address works fine

I turned my router off for ~6 hours last night as requested -  no effect

I'll look at the hosts file this evening

Thanks all
