Web hosting down?

Since yesterday I have been having difficulty using FTP to my ccgi web hosting site.  The connection times out. It was flaky yesterday, sometimes working, sometimes not, but now seems completely dead. The website itself is working fine: I just can't FTP to it to update it. There doesn't seem to be a category of support requests for this - any idea what I should do?

Re: Web hosting down?

Further to the above, doing this from a Linux command line I get:

~$ ftp ccgi.myaccount.force9.co.uk
Connected to ccgi.force9.net.
220 Website FTP Server Ready
Name (ccgi.myaccount.force9.co.uk:pi): cgi.myaccount.force9.co.uk
331 Password required for cgi.myaccount.force9.co.uk
Password:

I enter the password and then it just hangs.

Re: Web hosting down?

I used WinSCP to FTP and it connected OK & navigated the folders.

Re: Web hosting down?

Thanks: I just tried WinSCP with the same result. Also for FileZilla, using the same parameters as I've used every week for at least 5 years.

Re: Web hosting down?

@pjcs - same result, as in it still hangs?

Are you confident your FTP username is correct? If you log into the Hosting Control Panel at https://hosting.plus.net and navigate to the FTP Manager - do you see a corresponding user account?

Re: Web hosting down?

Fix

Thanks, it wasn't working all day yesterday, but this morning it seems to be fine. I am certain the username and password are correct, because they are saved in various apps including Filezilla, all of which were failing to connect yesterday, and all of which now seem to be working. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
