Web Design: Is there life after Front Page?

I have PN web space which I use.  I have a site which I created and update with FrontPage.  FP is an obsolete product, although it has generally done approximately what I want.  However, increasingly my FP site requires I.E. "compatibility view" so that when viewed on line the layout appears as intended . Is there some easy way to overcome this, so that compatibility view is not needed ?  (I suspect that viewers would not be aware of the compatibility view requirement and not bother with the site, as the layout initially could seem confusing)
Possibly I should move to another product. I actually bought MS Expression Web 3 but never really used it.  MS Expression Web 4 is now available as a free download, but is no longer a current MS product, so I suspect taking the time to become proficient in it might not be a good long term investment.
Dreamweaver seems to be the industry standard, but is rather expensive.
I am particularly interested in all this because I was elected Chair of an voluntary association which is very keen on a website presence, but unfortunately lost the services of their previous webmaster and do not currently have access to the website that he set up on PN Domain hosting.  In any case, that site may not be compatible with FP anyway.
Any advice welcomed.

I'd be inclined to drop FrontPage, as the problem you're seeing will only get worse.
While setting IE to compatability mode might help, what about visitors using other browsers, who will probably see something less than desireable.
The current Desktop market share for browsers goes something like..  IE @ 53%,  FireFox @ 18%, Chrome @ 14%, other @ 15%

The MS replacement for FP is web expressions it's now free from you can download it at MS http://www.microsoft.com/expression/eng/

Will the free MS offering produce W3C compliant code or just IE compliant code?

The most recommended bit of kit there is Kompozer. I've tried that several times and it's not great for anything other than basic pages. Want php in there? forget it unless it's inside the html - nothing before the first html tag and if you try, it's removed when you save it. Ok it's free and not bad for basic stuff i suppose but it's limiting!
