Upgrade of Broadband

Can anyone tell me if or when Plusnet is going to Upgrade its Broadband speed, Iam on Broadband Fibre Plus averaging 66 mps, A company called KCom has been round in front of my Bungalow in Selby North Yorkshire, Digging trenches and offering speeds up to 1TB, I am happy with a speed they are offering for the same as Iam paying now 400mps, I have been with Plusnet along time and Iam happy with my service, So that is my question are Plusnet in the process of doing the same, I see your sister company BT are offering this in certain parts and rolling it out across the country, So any information I can get from you would be appreciated,

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

First question to ask........  Do I really NEED to have a faster Broadband speed ?

Second question.... what actual difference would it make to what you are currently doing with your Broadband traffic... e.g...   surfing shopping... or   surfing shopping and gaming, and streaming.

Third question....   where would you "actually notice" if the broadband speed was an issue.... or not.... ?

on the other hand....... "Better the devil you know..... rather than an "unknown" devil promising something unknown...

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

Three good questions there @shutter . I'm currently on ADSL, getting ~10Mb/s, and for what I do, that is sufficient. Mind you, when I move ISP, it will be to 40/10, but unfortunately, there are no spare ports in the Fibre cab, so I'm going to have to wait.Sad

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

Are you sure about the 1TB speed?  The KCom website doesn't advertise anything above 900Mbps download (50Mbps upload) at £79/month.  By comparison Community Fibre offer 3Gbps (download and upload) in London at £99/month.

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

Who needs to (a) get that speed and (b) pay that silly money, on a residential connection, @Jonpe ?

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

I often wonder about that myself.... I am quite happy with my 8MB speed, and rock solid connection !

Very often, these "super fast" broadband speeds are promoted to those who would prefer to have a Ferrari SF90 parked on their driveway, instead of a Ford Ka, (or even a Skoda ! Smiley)

 The comparison being,.... they will both do the same job... transport you from A to B... at reasonable speed and comfort, but the Ferrari will get you there, marginally  quicker....

Yep, and the Ka (or Skoda) will be much cheaper maintenance wise, as well. Also more practical.

Fix

@frankdouglas

To get this back on topic there are rumours that Plusnet might offer FTTP sometime in the future. However this will depend on there being a BT FTTP network available in your area. I don’t know but suspect that KCom use their own fibre network. If so it would not be available to Plusnet customers.

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

@shutter

To continue with the euphemisms, I was paying Plusnet for a Ford Escort and could only get a Trabant even at the best of times. Ordered a 'fibre Ferrari' and am now running a 'fibre Fiat'.

More than what I really need but hey, it's a million times better than what it was.   😋

Someone with lots of kids, or a large student house perhaps?  I'm not saying anyone needs it, and I assumed the capital B was a 'misprint', simply casting doubt on the claim that the quoted speed is available at PN prices.

There are still people alive today who thought, "Wow, that's fast!" when they were upgraded from 28K to 56K on dial-up. 😀  Undoubtedly some of the super rich bemoan the fact that NYC is now 5-6 hours away when they used to get there in 3.

"Someone with lots of kids..."

Tell me about it. When the kids and grandkids arrive en masse with mobiles and laptops it never ceases to amaze me how even our fibre can keep up with demand!

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

I wonder why all the negative replies when all I did was ask a question, Certain replies were a question back, Questioning why would I want such a speed, I can think for myself I do not need anyone to think for me thankyou, Basically my first time in and my last, I never even said I was leaving Plusnet, It was purely a question I will not be asking a question in here again to many negatives, Please do not reply I will not be coming back in here again and you will be ignored..

Re: Upgrade of Broadband

OOh... what a shame..... you can help some of the people..... some of the time....

you can help most people, most of the time...

but you can`t help some  people ... sometimes ... or ever....

There was nothing negative in what my questions were... merely a suggestion as to WHY ....

As I also said... it would depend on your Broadband Traffic....

I also said that  "better the devil you know....>"  which was nothing to do with ANY suggestion that you were leaving... however.. you did say in your post... that another supplier was cheaper/faster... etc.. which.. implied, that if Plusnet were not going to do it in the forseeable future, then you would probably move to the other supplier.

@frankdouglas

No wonder people are confused;

Presumably by a speed of 1TB you mean 1TB per second?

Really?  1 TeraByte per second?  I don't think many people will believe that for a second.

And what is 400mps ?Huh

You can't really compare the two, whatever they're supposed to be.

Just saying.  Wink  Thumbs_Up
