Unable to use my VPN (IbVPN)

Hello all,

I have been with PlusNet for a number of years and have always used a VPN provided by IbVPN.

For the last few weeks, the VPN no longer logs in on any of my computers (Mac Book, Mac mini or mobile devices).

I cannot even log into the IbVPN website: https://www.ibvpn.com/ as the page returns and error.

I though that it was my VPN provider that had an issue but their customer service cannot see any problem. They have suggested that PlusNet is now blocking the IbVPN service. Indeed, when I connect using data on my mobile, I have no issues using the VPN.

How can I fix this and are PlusNet blocking a service that I am paying for?

Kind Regards

Re: Unable to use my VPN (IbVPN)

Fix

Do you have "Safeguard" turned on in your Plusnet account? It might be intercepting your DNS query.

Asking, for example, a Google DNS server or a normal Plusnet DNS server gives the correct answer for that website:

>nslookup www.ibvpn.com. 8.8.8.8
Server: dns.google
Address: 8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.ibvpn.com
Address: 69.167.172.118

>nslookup www.ibvpn.com. ntp.plus.net
Server: cdns02.plus.net
Address: 212.159.6.10

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.ibvpn.com
Address: 69.167.172.118

but asking one of the Plusnet Safeguard DNS servers it appears to be blocked (so gets an incorrect response):

>nslookup www.ibvpn.com. 213.120.234.42
Server: indnsc92.bt.net
Address: 213.120.234.42

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.ibvpn.com
Address: 81.130.111.240

Re: Unable to use my VPN (IbVPN)

Fantastic! That has indeed worked!

I have never switch on "safeguard" as I elected not to a while ago.

It must have been turn on automatically - but I'm not sure why.

Either way, many thanks for your input as it has fixed my issue.
