For some reason I cannot access https://oscar.wmo.int/surface/ from my home broadband.
TRACERT manages to reach addresses in Switzerland but Chrome just reports a timeout.
The website does work from my PC at work (not on PlusNET). It also works from my mobile phone when connected to mobile data (Three) but not when it's connected to my PlusNET router.
Is this a routing issue? Can you do anything about it?
Thanks.
Fixed! Go to the fix.

@PaulBramley Welcome to the forums. Have you ever been able to access it from home? - I've just tried, got there with no problem.
Silly question - maybe - but has your public IP changed recently?

I've only tried to access the website recently - I know it wasn't working last week but I just assumed it was a problem at their end.
I'm not on a static IP address - I last re-connected 2nd April (which was after I first noticed the issue).
Paul.

OK - try looking up your current IP on a few IP lookup sites and see who they say owns it. This sounds like WMO are using out-of-date data.
BTW - you could easily have reconnected to the same IP, as Plusnet now tend to use blocks in specific areas.

I've tried these 4 and they all seem to report pretty much the same:

Thanks for that information, Paul. If they all show the Organisation as INFONET, then this is something Plusnet need to sort - unfortunately I don't think the person who probably needs to know about it will spot this.
All I can do is tag an intermediary, but before I do, please confirm all the sites you have tried show the organisation as INFONET..

Yes I can confirm that they all show INFONET Services Corporation as the Organisation.
Thanks
Paul.

Thanks Paul. I'm no expert on the deeper workings of the 'net, so providing I haven't upset him too much previously ( 😉 ), I'll tag someone with more knowledge and possibly a way to ask the correct questions.
Sorry to bother you again, @Townman .

The INFONET link is a bit of a red herring. The BT Group acquired INFONET, a USA based organisation a number of years ago, when PN expanded their network, they used IP ranges from other parts of the BT Group, and particularily INFONET.
Although the IP range ownership changed, over the years there have been many instances of isses due to various sites using out of date databases and so thinking the IP's are still USA based.
With PN's new network using "sticky" small pools of IP addresses, it can be a bit harder to get a new one. However you can try leaving the router switched off overnight, or splashing out £5 and going for a static iP
HTH.,

@Mustrum Thanks for that, a bit more useful info for my tiny mind to acquire.
Looking at the info provided by @PaulBramley , this range still appears to be in the U.S. though.

Thanks for the info.
If I do get a static IP address though, presumably there's no guarantee that it will be a good old UK IP address. Couldn't I just end up with another INFONET one?
It's a bit beyond my comprehension why the site doesn't work because it thinks I'm in the USA though. I can only imagine there's a router somewhere sending data meant for me over the Atlantic instead of just over the channel 🙂

@PaulBramley IF you do go down the static IP route, it will come from a UK registered pool.

That's odd. I can readily access the page, though I am on a fixed IP.
There are no ISPs blocking that domain.
I can see no evidence of the target site blocking by geography (which is not the same as suggesting it categorically does not do so). Is there any error message from the browser when the page fails to load?
A tracert time out is not unexpected - by design not all addresses will respond to ping probes. The tracert below clearly got in to the target address space, but recieved no response in the final legs.
PS C:\Users\Kevin> tracert oscar.wmo.int

I get almost the same tracert results - I do have a further hop, but end up at the same address:
Tracing route to oscar.meteoswiss.ch [162.23.128.185]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms PNHUB1 [192.168.1.254]

6 15 ms 13 ms 20 ms peer8-et-3-1-6.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.252.174]
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 31 ms 33 ms 34 ms gen06pe10.100ge-7-0-0.bb.sunrise.net [212.161.179.151]
10 73 ms 30 ms 33 ms 194.230.36.210
11 33 ms 33 ms 34 ms 162.23.16.194
12 62 ms 44 ms 33 ms gi03-bemon74isp-ipe1.inetbb.admin.ch [162.23.16.245]
13 32 ms 42 ms 32 ms gi101-befll15a-sge-ice1.inetbb.admin.ch [162.23.17.250]
14 * * * Request timed out.
15 * * * Request timed out.
16 * * * Request timed out.
etc...
Forgot to add the browser error - Chrome reports oscar.wmo.int took too long to respond (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT).

Just to update - I've now got a static IP address and can access the WMO website.
Hooray!
Doesn't seem right I've had to pay £5 to achieve this so I hope someone at PlusNET can look into fixing this properly.
Thanks for the advice on here though.
