Subdomains

Is there anyway I get my domains to work thus:
www.domain.co.uk : points to the ccgi server (this is done, and working)
home.domain.co.uk : points to my own home PC via IP address (I have a static IP address, and the router is all setup)
I've configured the DNS settings thus:
home  A  <IPAddress>
www CNAME ccgi.plus.net.
However, www.domain.co.uk works but home.domain.co.uk does not. However, http://<IPAddress>; works.
Or would it be simpler to get another domain to point to my IP address?
Thanks in advance,
Gerald.

Re: Subdomains

I think that should work.  Huh
I do something similar, so I wonder what I'm missing.
Personally I'd use all a records, but that shouldn't matter:
home.domain.co.uk.    a    123.123.123.123
domain.co.uk.    a    84.92.1.4
www.domain.co.uk. ;   a    84.92.1.4
What do you get when you call home.domain.co.uk?

Re: Subdomains

Well, I never...it works now. Prolly didn't leave it long enough after making the change - gave it about 12 hours.
Anywho, thank you Gabe.
Gerald.

Re: Subdomains

DNS changes on your account often take over 24 hours to action, plus time for the changes to propagate out into the internet DNS cloud.

Re: Subdomains

Addition of a sub domain does not require any time to propagate. Only when the IP of the nameserver hosting the main domain is changed is time required for propagation.
When I add sub domains to any of my DNS servers the results are available instantly.

Re: Subdomains

Our internal Domain Control System takes 4-8 hours to update between the API and the DB so this probably accounts for the delay seen Smiley
