Re: Static IP 'lost'

@Peterworks

That's an unexpected result!

Was at some point your Hub not logged in as you?

Is the apparent correction of IP address an issue?

Edit: The option to add/check the Static IP was found in Add-Ons in the members centre, but that has now been taken away.

Re: Static IP 'lost'

@Dan_the_Van

My hub has always been logged in as me.

Yes the loss of the static IP is an issue.

@Peterworks

It is an unusual case.

@Leanne_T

Anything you can do to ensure the correct team is enganged?

Re: Static IP 'lost'

@Peterworks  If your current IP look up is showing your Username then it is a static IP, obviously a different one. RDNS for a dynamic address is "reversedIPaddress".dyn.plus.net

Re: Static IP 'lost'

I've had a look into this and can confirm you still have a static IP however it's applied as a "Force L2TP Connectivity" component, due to the broadband firewall being active, which means it's not guaranteed to allocate you the same one.

I can apply a fixed static IP to your account now, if it helps? You would get a new one, but it shouldn't change again.

Re: Static IP 'lost'

@Gandalf

Thank you - please apply a fixed static IP to my account. I appreciate that it will not be the same as the previous one but that is okay. What sort of timing on this please ?

Thank you again

Re: Static IP 'lost'

Fix

Just done it now. If you can reboot your router or disconnect/reconnect the PPP session, you'll get the new static IP.

That is most interesting!!

If they can't fix it can I have my five pounds back ?

Suggests that Peter paid for a static IP.

Question: How does a static IP by selection (as in paid for) interplay with someone also using the broadband fire wall.

@Townman

The first thing I thought of when I saw that, was whether that was the cause of your post  IPv6 trial - Plusnet firewall

There must be more to it than that. I have a static IP and rDNS returns <IP>.plus.com

It used to be possible to request removal of your Username from rDNS lookup, which I asked for. It may still be possible.

Re: Static IP 'lost'

@pvmb it is still possible to change the rDNS for a static IP.

The options are <accountname>.plus.com , <ip>.plus.com or a domain url for a domain you own (and have set an A record to point to your static IP)

A dynamic IP always shows <IP>.dyn.plus.net.

so if the rDNS returns <accountname>.plus.com it MUST be a static IP

AIUI it is associated, but not the cause.

I needed to fiddle with my broadband firewall settings, though that did not change my static IP address, it did drop me off the IPv6 trial, as that component is (in someway) connected to the firewall settings (IIRC Dave's advice).
