Static IP and reverse DNS

I logged a ticket/question with your support team over the phone on 29/10 to request a static IP. Initially I was told they weren't available, then that there would be a recurring charge of £5 / month. After a little but of pressing on my part, and the issue being escalated, I was told that a static IP was available for a £5 one-off setup fee.

I was told to wait for an email confirmation of the static IP, this didn't arrive and I've seen no updates to the support ticket (#207687725).

Can someone confirm if the IP I have now is static?

I would also like to change the reverse DNS record if this is possible.

Thanks

Re: Static IP and reverse DNS

If the reverse DNS is showing your name, which you’d prefer others not to see, then you’re on a fixed IP address.

Plusnet staff are able to change it.

Re: Static IP and reverse DNS

Thanks Champnet - can they change it to match a fqdn I choose or will it be along the lines of ip-xx-xx-xx-xx.plusdls.net etc?

Re: Static IP and reverse DNS

I always thought a static IP was a one off £5 charge, not an additional £5 per month?

Not that we have one over hers - it might be worth me setting it up in case I need to remote desktop in over there. Especially now as I am not supposed to go out. Mind you she is using a work laptop so I don't know if they would get funny if I went about making changes on it without them knowing. "Probably" as Carlsberg once said.

Re: Static IP and reverse DNS

Fix

It is a one-off charge (assuming a residential account), and typically it can be purchased via the add-ons section of the Member Centre.

The rDNS can be configured to a FQDN, however you will first need to set up a forward A record to point to your static IP to prove ownership.
