Setting up ftp access User Name or password not accepted

Hi, I am trying to set up my ftp access for my website.
This is the first time I am attempting to access this. With my previous host I usde Dreamweaver's Site Management to do this. When I attempted this with the settings provided through Plus Net set-up pages I get a "cannot connect to FTP host" error.
I then tried I.E. and just got the log in box cycling with my user name highlighted and the pasword box blank.
I then downloaded "CuteFTP" and got the same problem.
The setting provided were:
FTP server: ftp.plus.net
Username: my user name
Password: Your account password
Sub-directory: htdocs (upload files to this folder)
Are the above correct or is there an authentication problem?
Grateful for any help.
Stuart

Re: Setting up ftp access User Name or password not accepted

looking at my settings in FireFTP
Account name is ftp://username@ftp.plus.net
Host ftp.plus.net
Login is username
Password is normal one
As a check I went into IE7 and the address is ftp://username@ftp.plus.net/htdocs/ which then generates a username and password box.
filling those in connects you to  ftp://ftp.plus.net/htdocs

LunaAzul, that all looks correct.
you could try ftp2.plus.net
if set to passive, try active mode in your FTP client.
If you have a software firewall try disabling it to se if that is blocking your connection. If it is you may need to configure it for FTP access.

Thanks for the help. You all confirmed what I thought.
There was a problem with authentication of my account, which was sorted quickly by PlusNet Tech team.
Thanks again.

Re: Setting up ftp access User Name or password not accepted

I have trouble connecting with ftp here too.
I have working ftp clients on linux and windows machines which can connect to several sites.
I'm using:
host:  ftp.plus.net
username:  my user name (both with and without @plusdsl.net appended)
and my main account password.
I assume it should be port 21 but can't connect with this at all but it will connect if I use port 80 but still can't transfer files.
Any ideas?

Hi gnu,
I'll have a look from this end and see if there is anything obvious.

Couldn't see anything obvious so I've given it a bit of a kick. Can you try logging in again in a couple of hours.

Re: Setting up ftp access User Name or password not accepted

it's just the username on it's own. You don't need to put @plusdsl.net on the end.

I can connect now so you did something.
I can't upload so it just needs the correct permissions now.

Re: Setting up ftp access User Name or password not accepted

Make sure you upload files inside the htdocs directory. Outside this will produce permission errors.

Re: Setting up ftp access User Name or password not accepted

I got the same problem, I just activated (about 24 hours ago), and my webspace is not accessible via ftp. I'm using the normal details as listed, any chance my account could be freed up?
