Scam call

Had  a scam call from the following number 00437136610, saying my internet would be cut off due to illegal activity. I immediately hung up. Assume there is nothing Plusnet can do about this?

Re: Scam call

@sullys666 nothing ANYONE can do, I'm afraid. Probably from a 'call centre' in another country.

Re: Scam call

Block the number on 1572 and report it to BT as a scam call then to ICO if we keep pestering then maybe something will get done

Re: Scam call

@mort7890 The blocking using 1572 will probably work, but as I said earlier, if the call originated overseas (or even in the UK using a VoIP service), there is nothing BT or the ICO can do, their remit does not cover this situation.

Re: Scam call

I had a similar call years ago which I just ignored.

CLID can be spoffed, I think the number on my phone was something like: 01234567890

You don't exactly need a mathmatics degree to realise that is a fake number. 🤔

I would assume the scammers have gotten around any blocks you might put in place.

Of course it is worth reporting anyway. Better than nothing.

Re: Scam call

Surely BT and the technology they use can create software to do this and if we keep reporting all the scam calls then ICO and the other bodies will start acting on the problem

But BT cannot control what other countries telecomms systems do, same as India can't control ours - they can only legally control outgoing data on their network, and the ICO only has jurisdiction inside the UK.
