Post Migration Problems

I am totally confused by the changes.
My website appears to be up and running but now I am being bombed out by spam. http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/index.php
Using Filezilla without changing any settings I assume I am looking at the old platform.
What settings should I be using for the new platform?  I have tried a variety of permutations without success.
Please shine some light on my problems...

Re: Post Migration Problems

Yes, unless you update the settings FileZilla will still connect to the old server.
To connect to the new one, first I suggest logging into the Control Panel at https://hosting.plus.net with Username set to your website URL ccgi.username.plus.com and Password set to that given in the welcome email (or the new one if you've changed it already).
Start FTP Manager and bottom left of the page set a Master FTP password of your choice.
Now start FileZilla and connect using your website URL in both Host and Username boxes and the Password you've just set.
Note that on the new server you should find your website files in /public .

Re: Post Migration Problems

I have found the site files in Public folder. Sorry to seem so dim but what is the new URL for my site?
I have changed it to - http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/public/pixelpost/index.php but that does not work...
Or do I now have to doe something else to make the site live?
Thanks

http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/ works (I don't think you need 'public' in the URL, the 'public' directory is just like htdocs or whatever, previously)
I think http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/ would work if you used the same index.php file that you have in the pixelpost directory, in the public directory in place of the PN page 'nothing yet uploaded' (likely to be an index.php file so maybe download a copy before removing it from the 'public' directory and uploading your index.php file in its place).
Hope this helps,
Penny.
Edited to replace index.html with index.php, sorry, late hour, thoughts elsewhere : /

Re: Post Migration Problems

Hi Penny
Thank you for your response and the lateness of the hour...
I think I am still missing the point somewhere. If I enter the URL http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/index.php/ into a browser I see the attached screengrab.
I logged into Filezella using the info spraxyt suggested and I uploaded a new image here http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/index.php?showimage=520
I am still not sure whether I am looking at the old host url or the new host url.
Sorry to appear so dense.
Going quietly nuts...
Help...

As far as I understand it, putting a "/" at the end of a URL calls up a "directory" rather than a page.  So, http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/ calls up whatever is in the pixelpost directory (by default will call up an index page if such exists, be that index.php, index.htm or index.html [not sure of which would appear if more than one of those existed]), or would show a listing-of-contents if there wasn't any index page (you can test this by simply removing the index.php page and calling up that address).
Putting a "/" after a page address (in the URL you quoted, ie after index.php) is effectively calling up an index.php directory, which (in the address you quote) would be a subdirectory of the pixelpost directory.  Obviously no such subdirectory exists, hence maybe why what appears looks like a listing-of-contents (though I'm not entirely sure why it wouldn't simply call up a 404).

As far as I'm aware, if you've been migrated then you're looking at the "new host" URL (the main ccgi.username.plus.com address should have carried over, browser-wise, as it were, even if many of the other factors have changed, as regards how you access or modify your site's content behind-the-scenes).
If you uploaded the image *only* to the "new host" (ie by using the recently-provided log-in/access details), then if that image is viewable on line (ie not just on your hard drive) it must (logically) be the "new host" URL that you're looking at.
Hope that helps clarify things Smiley   a bit, anyway.

Re: Post Migration Problems

As Penny said, since your site has been migrated, URLs used in browsers will now go to the new server.
Also Penny has explained the problems with the posted URLs for viewing your site; the earlier one needed /public removing from its path, and the later one needed the final / removing because adding that makes it a directory reference rather than the intended file reference.
So http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/index.php displays what I assume is the latest image added to your MySQL database.
I expect using FTP to upload images will not achieve the desired effect because that does not add them to the database. Doesn't Pixelpost provide a site admin capability (perhaps at http://ccgi.thehamptons.plus.com/pixelpost/admin/index.php) where you login to do that? The username and password for this should be the same as you used on the Plusnet ccgi server. Have you tried logging in?

Re: Post Migration Problems

Hi David
I think I have it sorted now.
The only remaining problem is I seem to be getting a lot of spam comments since the migration. Which is a bit strange as I have comments deactivated on the site in question.
Thanks for your help

Re: Post Migration Problems

Hi Alistair
Posting your site URLs in this forum will have raised its profile on the international stage. That means spammers will be encouraged to visit and try to post their links in spurious comments on site articles.
Unfortunately though you might have disallowed comments, vulnerabilities in WordPress (particularly older versions) might still let them through - even requiring login can be by-passed by those who know how. Updating your site to the latest version (3.8.1) might help reduce such comments. The Akismet plugin is also worth considering.

Re: Post Migration Problems

I am still using Pixelpost as a platform, which alas is no more. I am contemplating whether to move to a Wordpress platform. I am using Askimet and since I started updating my .htaccess file regularly the flow of spam has started to reduce.
Thanks again for your help and comments.
Regards
Alistair
