But I would REALLY appreciate a nice SIMPLE answer!
I have registered holywellhousepublishing.co.uk AND holywellhousepublishing.com
ON 123.reg AND "pointed" the .co.uk domain name at my web space on Plusnet.
What happens if I ALSO point the .com domain name at Plusnet?
Will people be able to access my web site by entering EITHER domain name?
Instead of having to enter .co.uk?
And what happens when they get a "hit" on a Google search?
Do they get the .co.uk web address?
Or the .com web address?

Your website will become accessible using either domain. There's also the option to point any additional domains to different directories under your /htdocs folder.

Yes.

Nothing in life is as simple as one thinks - or hopes!
The fact is it's over a year since I registered these domain names and pointed ONE (holywellhousepublishing.co.uk) at my site on Plusnet.
And I can no longer remember how I did it!
I now want to point the other - holywellhousepublishing.com - to the same site on Plusnet.
Both domain names are registered on 123-reg.co.uk
Is there a SIMPLE guide somewhere on how to do this?
Or can you "talk" me through it?
Bill

Click 'Manage'
Click 'Web Forwarding'
Click 'Edit' and type in your plusnet webspace address but I don't know what that would be in your case as I may be on a different VISP.
If you have one pointing to Plusnet then copy the details across to the other.

http://www.123-parking.co.uk
listed as the forwarding destination!
But holywellhousepublishing.co.uk goes to:
http://www.forsterbalcke.plus.com/
And I want my .com domain name to go to the same area on Plusnet.
Why do they have this parking address?
And how do I get both to go to my site on Plusnet?
Do I change both on the 123-reg.com control panel?
Despite one working OK at present?

On the other hand your .com domain is still hosted by 123-reg and their servers provide authoritative DNS; currently this points to their 123-parking server. I assume this is the default setting for newly registered domains.
Is your intention that Plusnet will also host your .com domain? I think this would be requested using "Transfer in" on your Plusnet account Domain names page. Once that is complete what the 123-reg control panel says for this domain would also become immaterial.
Have you decided whether one of the domains will be the "master" for search engine purposes with the other doing a permanent (301) redirect to it?

I paid 123-reg for registering both domain names.
Am I also paying Plusnet for the .co.uk name? Or does this come for free?
I also note that when I search for both domain names on: http://www.allwhois.com/
I only find the .com domain name listed.
Does this mean that for some reason my main domain name:
holywellhousepublishing.co.uk
is no longer registered?
That would be RATHER worrying ...!
What is my BEST course of action?

In other words I think both names should be registered with 123-reg and point at my Plusnet site.
But am open to persuasion that it would be in my interests to adopt a different approach.
By the way I hope these issues are of interest to others on this Forum.
I assume I am not the only one who gets confused over these issues.
Though I could plead old age in my defence - don't ask ...

I guess this is the page one has to look up the .co.uk domain names: http://www.nominet.org.uk/other/whois/
Sounds crazy that is not a single listing for ALL types of domain names.
But that still leaves me uncertain why on my 123-reg CONTROL PANEL has my .co.uk domain name "parked" when its aimed at my site at Plusnet.
I guess I better await a further post from one of the guys at Plusnet to explain that one.
And help me to decide what to do next.

Nominet are the registration authority for .uk domains, and only provide information for these. Other authorities provide information for which they are responsible. If you search using a third party site they look up the information on the appropriate authority's site, effectively providing a single source. Plusnet's Using Whois to check Domain Details help page recommends Whois-search for checking registration details.
Quote from: forsterbalcke But that still leaves me uncertain why on my 123-reg CONTROL PANEL has my .co.uk domain name "parked" when its aimed at my site at Plusnet.
I tried to explain this previously, albeit using words which might suggest I wasn't sure. I'm as sure as I can be. I think you would have to ask 123-reg for a 100% sure answer.
Quote from: spraxyt Your .co.uk domain is hosted by Plusnet so their name servers provide authoritative DNS information. I assume this means that what your 123-reg control panel says is immaterial - 123-reg only deal with registration for this domain.
I think you are getting confused between domain registration (which you will pay 123-reg to administer) and domain hosting (which relates to your website with Plusnet - and depending on your product might be free). To set up Domain Hosting with Plusnet will require a Hosting Only transfer as is explained on the Plusnet How to Transfer a Domain help page. If your product allows free hosting of more than one domain (see Domain Hosting Allowances) there will be no charge for hosting your .com domain.
Note that you raise a ticket to request Hosting only - using the path explained in the guide - and *not* the Transfer in button I mentioned previously,
Hope this is clearer.

Quote 123-parking is a simple way to earn money from your domains' natural traffic.
If you have registered domain names, but they are not currently being used for a website or email, then domain parking is a great way to put those domains to work earning you revenue.
You can make money without even lifting a finger! The idle domain is used to display relevant advertisements - every time a consumer clicks on one of the advertisements you earn a percentage of what the company paid to be listed there, more often than not the user receives anything from 1p to £4.00+ per click.
There are thousands of advertisers worldwide who pay for keyword placement within 123-parking’s search engine.
If an advertiser pays £6.00 for the keyword 'loans' and a member of public is directed to your parking page and clicks on a 'loans' link, you will earn a referral fee of approx £3 per click.
It's as easy as that!

Have summed up the courage to enter my control panel on 123-reg and redirect BOTH my domain names to: http:///www.forsterbalcke.plus.com/
In both cases I have done a 301 redirect.
Please confirm if I am on the right track?
While I wait nervously to see what happens!

The www.holywellhousepublishing.com is taking me to the 123-reg domain advice page. If this is the one you have changed today then it will take about 24 hrs to propagate the changes across the internet.
Check back tomorrow
