I have received updates this morning for the McAfee / Plusnet Protect Security Software that are causing Google Chrome, Mozilla and Edge to crash

Re: Plusnet Protect Security Software

When I upgraded to fibre broadband the PN adviser told me it's not worth using the free tools if I already have anti-virus software. Like others here I just use Windows Defender and run a scan now and then with MalwareBytes free software.

McAfee was never very good and it seems everyone gives it away these days so there's no incentive for McAfee to make the program any better.

Re: Plusnet Protect Security Software

I'm with rongtw on this one.

BT Netprotect plus was a total pain imho, it was very resource hungry (it used to s-l-o-w devices down by robbing all the processing power) and often caused more issues than it fixed.

Having not allowed PNP anywhere near our devices, I couldn't possibly comment.... Wink ..... but I did even go to the point of uninstalling McAfee* from a brand new laptop purchased in January Smiley

*Mr McAfee himself has bad mouthed products that he had sold on to A.N.Other via a well known video he once uploaded.

W7 = MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) = free

W10 = Windows Defender (looks the same as MSE) = free

Malwarebytes = free version

CCleaner = free version

Spybot search and Destroy = free version

I have no commercial interest in any of the above, but I learned my lesson the hard way!!
