Password policy for router and plus.net login

When I first signed up for PN I seem to recall that my username and password for logging in to my PN account in a browser had to be the same as the username and password that I use to connect my router to PN service.

Is that a false memory or is it true?

If you are talking about logging into the Member Centre then yes, that is the same password as the one used to connect your router to Plusnet.

The Plusnet Community forum password is separate and can be different.

OK - so, when I contact PN by phone I'm asked to confirm characters from my password.

It seems to me that either that login/password is stored in plain text or is in a de-cryptable format.

Given the almost daily litany of large scale user data breaches, is this a "Good Idea" ?

If so, why?

Re: Password policy for router and plus.net login

No it's not a good idea and no Plusnet will not change this policy. It has been discussed here over the years until the cows come home and Plusnet ain't interested in changing it.

Basic rule, never reuse passwords anywhere and especially with Plusnet.
