[PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Can someone comment on the availablility of the graphics toolkits available on the server?
I have Gd configured and working but would have also expected to see either or both ImageMagick and NetPBM.
My installation is in need of something to render .png images and I'm struggling at the moment.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits

We don't seem to have either, which is odd, because Gallery is in the apps store and I'd have thought these were pretty much prerequisites.  Huh
Perhaps some kind person from Plusnet could install them?

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Hi
On the Gallery 2 website this indicates that it will work with GD
Can you please let us know what issues you are experiencing?
Also do you know what libraries you are requiring if we were to install Imagemagick and whether you are using php/perl/cgi with this.

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Hi Kev,
The issue in Gallery is with Watermarking images (with a semi-transparent PNG image), GD is not good at this task whereas ImageMagick is recommended.
Regarding installation there is detailed info here http://codex.gallery2.org/Installing_an_Image_Processing_Library
Thanks,
Paul

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Thanks Kev!  Smiley
For Gallery users, the path is the default /usr/bin/ and I've just had it confirmed that the security warning thrown up by Gallery when you Test Settings has been fixed for this version.

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Yes thanks Kev, but ...
There is a known issue with the version that has been installed
ImageMagick 6.2.4 - This version may fail to watermark images (no errors reported, watermarks simply don't appear). Workaround: upgrade ImageMagick or use a different toolkit module (like NetPBM).
Above extracted from http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Known_Issues
Any chance of an upgrade?

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Oo, no, that doesn't work for watermarks. Apologies for earlier optimism. Not so much a "may fail" as a "does fail".
Second the previous request, with thanks for the help so far.

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

Hi
We have installed the latest stable release that is available for Debian.
Debian who are hoping to release a later version of their operating system in the future, may resolve this by adding a more up todate version on the their stable release. Until that happens unfortunately we are unable to install any later versions of this software.

Re: [PAYH] Graphics tookits - A Question !

OK I understand.
Is it possible then to enable NetPBM to use as an alternative to ImageMagick please?
