Off Line Backup - htaccess help

One of my duties is Secretary to a local organisation and I have have all the minutes on my PC with a separate backup
It occurred to me that I could safely back them up to my better half's website on 1&1 - it has stacks of spare space
Can I have an idiots guide to setting up password access only to that folder

Re: Off Line Backup - htaccess help

It's also worth taking a look at How to Password Protect your Website in the Community Support Library. There is a suggestion at the bottom of that for identifying the file system path you'll need.

Re: Off Line Backup - htaccess help

Thanks all
There is some doubt as to whether the 1&1 account supports it so I have pushed a query off to them also asking what would be the required path
Will report back in a few days

I'd be surprised if they didn't. Let us know how you get on.

Follow the steps below to manually password protect your website files or folders to keep them from being accessed without a password.
This functionality is only available with packages that have SSH access.

As we have the cheapest package that isn't included
However - the good news is that given the very small size of the folders which need backing up I can use my Plusnet webspace
However - is that function only available with the CGI webspace and, if so, is it available given that I had it before changing products http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/broadband_payg_archive.shtml

I think the sums are done by an overnight job, so should be updated by morning.
