MySQL v5

I need to use MySQL v5 but the version currently offered is 4.0.24.  Tech support suggested posting on here to see if others would like to use v5.  Anyone?
Thanks
Carl

Re: MySQL v5

I have added this suggestion to link:pugit;
http://usergroup.plus.net/pugit/view.php?id=373
It sort of goes hand in hand with updating PHP to PHP5

Re: MySQL v5

Highly likely to be mysql as mysqli is (iirc) only available in php5 or later versions of php4

Re: MySQL v5

Most definitely I'd like the upgrade to version 5.  It's a real shame that Plusnet seem so tardy in updating key software.  There are no issues with MySQL 5 I don't understand the delay.
I'm going to ask the same question with regards to php5 too.

Re: MySQL v5

Although this is an old thread my question to support relates exactly to this issue and trying to install Joomla 1.6.0. Here is the response I received

Thanks for your message. At present we have no plans to change the MySQL version we have on our service. If this is to be done we will announce it on our community forums. The URL for the forums is community.plus.net. Please keep an eye on here and if this changes we'll ensure it's announced. Thanks.

Re: MySQL v5

Normal form for Plusnet in cases like this is to leave it as it is with a promise to do something "at some time". Then there will be a security breach and it will be updated in a panic.

Re: MySQL v5

See this still only MySQL v4? post from Bob. Only one response to that which suggested it wasn't regarded as an urgent issue. Cry

Re: MySQL v5

I guessing that this is more to do with pushing customers towards PAYH which offers MySQL 5.

Re: MySQL v5

Even PAYH is only runnin MySQL 5.0.32.
I'd like to upgrade to Joomla 1.6 too, but the minimum requirement is MySQL 5.0.4

Re: MySQL v5

I've just had to ask my hosting company that I have my reseller account with to update to the latest version of mySQL because they were running an old version.
Most software these days requires the latest version. I think if you're offering hosting you should keep all server software up to date.
My hosting company are in the process of upgrading mySQL which is a pain because it isn't going smoothly and one or two of my sites are down with database errors. But at least once it's done it doesnt limit me to what software I can run on them.
So I think it's a priority for Plusnet to update mySQL not something that can be shoved on the back burner.

Re: MySQL v5

The problem is the cgi and mysql hosting services are a legacy offering and are nothing but a cash drain and support headache for Plusnet.
They are stalling and dragging their feet on this in the hope that people will give up and go to either the PAYH service or just plain old elsewhere so they can turn off the servers for good.

Re: MySQL v5

I've read posts saying that CGI and MySQL should be installed or started from the website settings on the login page.  Well golly-gee, I must be getting ripped off by Plusnet because I'm paying for the full package Exreme and there is no option for this available.  So how am I supposed to install wordpress?  Angry
