My website needs cleaning up, help please.

After many changes and mods to my website using cuteftp, I am now dissatisfied with the way it all appears and I want to clean it all up and re-jig the whole shooting match.
I think  that the easiest way to achieve this is wipe the site clean and start again.
As it is a number of years since I first prepared the site, I need help to achieve my aim.
I therefore ask the Plusnet staff to point me towards the procedures.
I firstly need to save from my files the major files which I will re-use .
I will then need to re-establish the service from PN and upload the new site, which of course will retain its name.
cheers

Re: My website needs cleaning up, help please.

Assuming you are using the standard Plusnet webspace just copy the whole site onto your hard drive using Cuteftp - that is everything under the htdocs directory.
Create your new site on your hard drive and when you are happy with it delete everything in the htdocs directory and then upload your new site to that directory
With this method you will still have a full backup of your old site

Re: My website needs cleaning up, help please.

Hi Jim, I'm back!
Having re-jigged my website , it looks as if I clicked something I shouldn't have because I now find that I cannot get into my site from any browser.
would you mind please trying to get www.music2myears.plus.com ; and tell me if the same is happening to others.
If you can't, do you have any idea why?!
cheers

Re: My website needs cleaning up, help please.

Looks like it could be a permissions issue on the folder. Are the permissions for htdocs set to the necessary 0755? Any files in htdocs should be 0644. (Note to posterity: these figures apply to homepages, not ccgi.)

Re: My website needs cleaning up, help please.

Thanks  but where do I find the permissions?
cheers
LATER:
I found a site which has the permissions configuration  http://www.zzee.com/solutions/chmod-help.shtml#ftp
BUT my 'permissions' configured as      drwx--------
which doesn't seem to be correct for any access?  but how to change?

Re: My website needs cleaning up, help please.

in the htdocs directory is there a file index.html or index.htm
To get a picture just press Print Scrn and this will copy it to clipboard and you can paste it into any paint program and then save as a jpg and post using Additional Options

but how to change?

Using CuteFTPP, highlight the folder or file, then right click and select "change file attributes". Then enter 755 or 644, as appropriate.
I think there must be an index file or on homepages we'd see a listing.
