MX record in DNS

I have a domain name registered with a registrar (not plus net) and want to set the MX record to the Plus Net mail server so I can continue to collect mail that is sent to the new domain via my Plus Net account.
Is this possible? If so, what should the mx record be: mail.plus.net ?

Have you got the domain set to be hosted by Plusnet? If not Plusnet won't know what to do with it as it won't recognise the domain name.

No, it isn't hosted by plusnet.
What I want to do is use another hosting company for web hosting but keep plusnet for email. I was hoping I could set this up just by using the DNS records at the registrar. But maybe not ...

Can't be done I'm afraid unless your host has some form of email forwarding service.

I have a domain registered with 123-reg and email forwarded to a Plusnet account. Works fine.

Presumably using an email forwarding service though Strat rather than pointing the domain to our servers using MX records?
