Just out of intrest

When will plusnet offer faster speeds of maybe 100+meg ? I have friends who live near amsterdam and they are shocked when i tell them we can only get 80/20. They say they get 200+ why is that ? I know im talking about another country but why is the uk limited to 80/20?

The UK isn't limited to 80/20, BT Infinity 4 is 300Mb/s for example.

As is VM, and when they get around to deploying DOCSIS 3.1 will be able to offer 1Gbps

Plus Openreach are beginning the roll out of G.fast which will offer people speeds upto 330Mbps (it's capable of faster speeds, but BT are being cautious/conservative in only offering upto 330Mbps at least initially) with the plan for it to be available to 10 Million premises by 2025.

Then there's the various altnets offering FTTB and FTTP/H connections upto 1Gbps, and one that is or at least was trialling 5Gbps

The thing is, it is all very well having huge download speeds, and you think "Brilliant" (sorry thinking Paul Whitehouse from the Fast Show here).

Yes it can make a difference, but there are other factors such as the server you're downloading from, its capacity to there and how many other people are using it.

I remember at work, where I had to download files and it was like dial-up speed even though we had a fast link.

Re: Just out of intrest

That's a rather blinkered way to look at it though. The more bandwidth the more you can do simultaneously.

In my house when everyone was home (5 of us)  my 80/20 connection was regularly becoming saturated, so in the end got a second connection installed.

Now we can all do what we need again without affecting others in the house...

Re: Just out of intrest

Do you need to be an FTTP customer to have more than one connection?
