Joomla session timeouts - getting logged out

Hi
Have got Joomla running fine except.... - I have been trying to find the post  re. Joomla session timeouts.
There is no access to php.ini o so how do I stop session timeouts every couple of seconds when I log in?
It also usually takes severalk goes to login in.
Any ideas?

Which host are you using?
You can use ftp to open up the configuration.php and change the timeout line from there
line 43 $mosConfig_lifetime = '1200';
Or from within control panel/
site/global confiruration/server
5th line down site session lifetime.
