Ah well, at least I'll be able to use Joomla 1.6 once it is on general release, it looks quite promising.
Will someone book me an appointment at SpecSavers in the meantime.
Thanks Kev.

I'd be very interested to know how you managed to get Joomla to work on the PAYH server. I am completely stuck!
I cannot upload images using Media manager due to files being created with the wrong user/group credentials and FTP won't work because of the safe_mode problem.
How did you fix these?
Best regards
Andrew

and it just works so long as you put the correct information in when you go through the install process, By the way, set the CRON script to un pack at least 5 mins ahead, the plusnet server clock doesn't seem to be the same as the one on my Computer.
I could add one thing, if you are installing over the top of a previous joomla install I'd delete the configuration.php file. Don't know why but it seemed to install better when I just did a completely new re- install.
Also, learn from my big error a few weeks back, make sure backup is switched on in the plesk server for your domain(s) and you have a backup file to restore from if it all goes wrong Restore works like a dream by the way, thankfully.
I have also exported the database sometimes when completely digging deep so that you can reinstall just parts of the tables. I learnt a lot that weekend, most of all Back up first!

For reference these plusnet, plesk PAYH hosted websites are all Joomla 1.5.15
http://www.frizzell.biz
http://www.frizzell.tv
http://www.dogsfriendly.co.uk
http://www.bromsgroverfc.co.uk
There are some issues but only minor ones for example, the Avatars in Kunena forum component has a paths problem and you are correct Safe Mode is an issue with some things but on the whole my sites work well and the bromsgrove rugby one is very busy without hiccups.
I am no expert here, I tend to rely on clever folks in such places as this forum and Joomla forum.

I have been through the install and my site is up.
But when I go to the Media manager to create a new folder I get the error
* JFolder::create: Could not create directory
* JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Any ideas?

I've just tried to create a folder in media manager and it worked fine. Shot in the dark, check the permissions for the images folder it should be 755.

I think the cron job creates all files as user:group "ekabuk_ftp:psacln", but when the php runs it creates them as "www-data:www-data" and one process can't access the files created by the other.
Does that make sense to anyone?
Off home now, back tomorrow.

Andrew
