Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

As a user of Joomla 1.5.x on the current plesk server I have noticed that Joomla 1.6 is not too far away. However, it will require php5.2 which we don't have on plesk yet. Any idea when or if the PAYH servers will be upgraded to php 5.2.x ?Huh

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

Well! this is odd. When I checked my Joomla system info to see if the php version was okay for v1.6.x it came up with version 5.x.x or something like that but certainly not 5.2.x However, I just checked this morning and it says 5.2 So all is well. Just so that I know I'm not completely mad can someone tell me how long the plesk server has been 5.2.x Crazy

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

That's odd!! Cheesy I'd swear blind that it showed 5.0 or 5.1 or something like that.
Ah well, at least I'll be able to use Joomla 1.6 once it is on general release, it looks quite promising.
Will someone book me an appointment at SpecSavers in the meantime.
Thanks Kev.

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

Hi Word Warrior,
I'd be very interested to know how you managed to get Joomla to work on the PAYH server. I am completely stuck!
I cannot upload images using Media manager due to files being created with the wrong user/group credentials and FTP won't work because of the safe_mode problem.
How did you fix these?
Best regards

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

I can't claim any real ability to set up Joomla on the plesk PAYH servers I just used this:-
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,69399.msg553486.html#msg553486
and it just works so long as you put the correct information in when you go through the install process, By the way, set the CRON script to un pack at least 5 mins ahead, the plusnet server clock doesn't seem to be the same as the one on my Computer.
I could add one thing, if you are installing over the top of a previous joomla install I'd delete the configuration.php file. Don't know why but it seemed to install better when I just did a completely new re- install.
Also, learn from my big error a few weeks back, make sure backup is switched on in the plesk server for your domain(s) and you have a backup file to restore from if it all goes wrong Restore works like a dream by the way, thankfully.
I have also exported the database sometimes when completely digging deep so that you can reinstall just parts of the tables. I learnt a lot that weekend, most of all Back up first! Cheesy
For reference these plusnet, plesk PAYH hosted websites are all Joomla 1.5.15
http://www.frizzell.biz
http://www.frizzell.tv
http://www.dogsfriendly.co.uk
http://www.bromsgroverfc.co.uk
There are some issues but only minor ones for example, the Avatars in Kunena forum component has a paths problem and you are correct Safe Mode is an issue with some things but on the whole my sites work well and the bromsgrove rugby one is very busy without hiccups.
I am no expert here, I tend to rely on clever folks in such places as this forum and Joomla forum. Wink

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

Doh, same problem again!
I have been through the install and my site is up.
But when I go to the Media manager to create a new folder I get the error
        * JFolder::create: Could not create directory
        * JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Any ideas?

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

Might be a permissions problem although everything should be either 755 (folders) or 644 (files) I know some stuff comes up Unwritable in Joomla.
I've just tried to create a folder in media manager and it worked fine. Shot in the dark, check the permissions for the images folder it should be 755.

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

Yeah tried that 😞

I think the cron job creates all files as user:group "ekabuk_ftp:psacln", but when the php runs it creates them as "www-data:www-data" and one process can't access the files created by the other.
Does that make sense to anyone?
Off home now, back tomorrow.

Re: Joomla 1.6 and PAYH hosting.

If you get bored with safe mode, you could try using <a href="http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,73037.0.html">this wrapper</a>.
