Inserting a visitor counter on website

How do I insert a visitor counter on my website's index page please?
I am using MS Word to make the site. I am using a PC running W98.
(Yes, I know that's all very primitive, but at least I understand it!)

This is the same one I use.  You can set a cookie to prevent the counter counting your visits, but I found I kept deleting the cookie during cleanup, so I've set up the counter to ignore my static IP.

I use www.sitemeter.com, which does the same thing.
Watch out with using Word to create a website. Like FrontPage, it puts in a lot of non-standard HTML. I also found with an old version of Word (Word2000 or Word97) that it put \ in URLs instead of /. Internet Explorer coped with this, but some Linux browsers didn't.

Ah, Neil, that's the one I have used before, for an earlier website.  It looks very simple, so I think I shall go with that.
Does anyone know how to re-zero it though?  I am making a second site, and at the moment (not yet uploaded) it seems to show the current visitor figure for site 1.

just add this line to your website were you want it to appear
<img src="http://homepages.plus.net/cgi-bin/counter?angelab_pn" />
this will set up the one that Plus net supplies I have tested the code and it works

OK, my domain2 site is uploaded, complete with its P;lusNet hit counter.  But although I inserted its code afresh, it is already showing 105156 visits (the figure for my domain1 site)!
Does anyone know how I can set it to start at zero?
