Hub 1 and pinging

Currently using the TBB quality monitor but once I put the Hub 1 in I won't be able to as it doesn't support ping.. So obviously the answer is to put something pingable in the DMZ. Seems silly to put a firewalled computer in there but was wondering what other people use? Can the YouView box be put in there safely if you set its IP and DNS server entries.

Pity no-one makes a nice cheap ping response box....

I use a Now TV box.

Using Fing I can see it normally has ports 80 & 8080 open so using port forwarding I point those elsewhere.
