How to find and access my data download and upload records?

Is there a way for me to access my monthly broadband data download and upload records myself please?

(I switched off and unplugged my router during a holiday in May, but on returning home someone unauthorised had plugged the router back in in my absence - if I can see which day and the data volumes used - it will help me to identify who has accessed)

Thanks

Re: How to find and access my data download and upload records?

Hello @Helga

A warm welcome to the forums.

There is no means by which you can access the bandwidth utilisation history yourself.  Plusnet staff might be able to offer some information, but I expect that it will be limited.  What is it you really want to know, the amount of usage, or just when the service was used?

For when the service was used, a staff member might be able to provide something called a visual radius log, which will indicate when there was an active connection on the account, though I have not see one of those around here for a long time.

Alternatively, inspection of the Plusnet Hub Two technical log will indicate when the router was powered up and connected to the internet.  That might give you sufficient information for your needs.

If this is potentially a recurrent issue of concern, establishing a Think Broadband Quality Monitor would offer indications of the connection's activity and how busy it was.

That could be helpful, but the TBB QM only gives an indirect indication of how busy a connection is (in terms of download/upload traffic) - it provides a view of the delay in replying to a ping, which may be due to the router or whatever device is configured to respond being busy downloading data from the internet, or it might be busy with internal traffic.

My TBB QM doesn't show any obvious latency even when very busy downloading data as the server that handles the ICMP requests is fairly competent.

Are you routing inbound ICMP request pings to a specific server on your LAN, rather than allowing the router to handle them?

My graph above shows my link being hammered attempting to upload a 22GB Wordpress site back up (several times due to issues with the Wordpress toolset I sought to use).  My Hub 2 is handling the ICMP responses to the inbound pings, so I guess it is giving priority to real traffic.

Re: How to find and access my data download and upload records?

I usually have two monitors running - one to the router (although that one isn't active at the moment), and one to my server. Both have fixed IPs, the router with the ISP allocated IP and the server with an L2TP tunnel. Almost all of my traffic goes through the server as I work from home. Neither get stressed by big transfers over my 600 Mpbs symmetrical connection, but neither are typical home broadband kit.
