Hosting with Plusnet

I have a domain name hosted by Madasafish and I am at moment using Web Mail only.
I want to transfer this to Plusnet and have it all under one account along with a new home phone and broadband package.
Sales say that hosting is not done any more.
can this be confirmed please.
Hope i am in the right section.

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

We (read: Plusnet) could host the email element of the domain, but sales are right to tell you that web hosting is no longer available. Moving the domain from MAAF to Plusnet is also likely to require that somebody manually corrects some of the back-end databases as I don't think the system handles the situation very gracefully.

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

Hi dp2010,
It is still relevant but only for legacy account holders (or those on newer accounts who've kept legacy components when they upgraded). We've still a large number of customers who use the hosting platform, that's why the information is still on the site. I could request that it gets amended to state as such if you like?

I have just transferred in from TalkTalk who bought out F2S but my domain is still hosted by them (or Register.com or Nominet I know not which?)
Who do you suggest I get to host my domain if Plusnet are not interested?

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

I would host your domain with 123-reg and park your domain with PlusNet only if you have webspace from PlusNet, if you do not have webspace from PlusNet you can get Free webspace from 000webhost.com and you can park your domain with them for Free.
Hope this helps.

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

Thanks for that.
Now a question (forgive me if it's stupid) i never did understand the difference between hosting a website and hosting e-mail. When I was first with f2s I had a website and personalised e-mail with what seemed to be the same domain name. I didn't maintain the website so finished up just using the e-mail. Now I want to initially host my e-mail then eventually get back to creating a website.
I have been on the webhost.com website and "hosted" my domain with them now can I use this for e-mail?
Regards
Peter

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

With 000webhost.com you get 5 Free E-mail Addresses.
You can use the same domain name for your E-mail Addresses and website hosting.
Hope this helps.

Hi. Thanks for the heads-up on 000webhost.com. I belong to a very small cash-strapped not-for-profit organisation who want a database-backed web site, and 000webhost.com sound like they might be just what we need.
Just out of interest: given that 000webhost.com seem to provide webspace, PHP & MySQL free, what are the advantages of parking with PlusNet even if you do have webspace etc. there?

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

If you do have webspace like me for example my main site www.dhea.org.uk is on F9 / PlusNet Servers, I have unlimited email addresses from F9 for any of my Domains that are pointed at F9.
Hope that helps

Re: Hosting with Plusnet

Thanks Gary, I don't think a cap of 5 mail addresses would be an issue for the site I have in mind. It probably wouldn't be for my own domain either, come to that. With 000webhost.com offering MySQL 5.x it might make sense for me to move my own domain over there at some point if unlimited email accounts is the key advantage of parking on PlusNet, to be honest.
