Fibre on the way

So a few days ago we had a fleet of openreach vans outside ( had to ask one to move so i could get out) and just asked what they were doing they said they were preparing to prepare for full fibre laying to each property - and this will be replacing the old copper wires, which leaves a few questions:

What level of disruption will this bring, Virgin media cabled an area nearby and everywhere was a mess for some time - and there are still problems with gas leaks, water leaks and potholes, will openreach make a similar mess?

If the copper network is being decoisioned and  replaced with FTTP where does this leave ADSL/VDSL (FTTC) and will this forced upgrade be the end of plusnet?

Re: Fibre on the way

They will not be removing the copper network just yet, it is planned to go in about 5 years time but it will probably be a lot longer than that. You will not be forced to upgrade to FTTP.

Re: Fibre on the way

according to one of the openreach workers we could be in a test area for migration to full fibre to each property and the removal of the old analogue copper cables.
not sure how that would affect Plusnet, I would assume the service would continue as fibre to the premises

Re: Fibre on the way

The problem you have there is that at the moment Plusnet to not provide FTTP and cannot give an idea whether or when they are possibly going to supply it, so it would mean having to move to another ISP.

Openreach have published a list of  118 exchanges to have analog switched off in the next 12 months. See if your exchange is listed.
