Re: FTTP Avialabilty

@snadge Probably sometime after 2025 when the POTS circuits are turned off entirely. PN are BT's 'bargain basement' brand and the upper management have decided not to offer FTTP to their customers.

Fix

@snadge

There are no KNOWN plans for PlusNet to offer FTTP. What is known is that they would have to re-write their back office systems to do so.

If OpenReach have made FTTP available at your address then any ISP who uses the OR network and offers FTTP can be chosen. This includes eg Zen, Sky &TalkTalk. There are others.

Re: FTTP Avialabilty

Its beginning to look like BT are preparing to kill off Plusnet gradually.!

I've just been told that FTTP is now available in my area but no further expansion of FTTC planned so when my ADSL2 contract ends in June I'll be forced to leave PN to join BT.Sky or TT etc unless I want to stay on the 16Mb service I currently have.

Bit sad after 13 years.........

Re: FTTP Avialabilty

Having read all the comments I'm of the same mind BT will gradually wind down Plusnet.

I've been with Plusnet on and off for 12 years, not only that I've encouraged many others in the village to sign-up, I run the village website.

We now have Openreach contractors installing Fibre to the phone poles, I laughingly call this Fibre to the Post. People are asking me what they should do and at the moment I don't know what to recommend.

Re: FTTP Avialabilty

@rosmith52

First thing is for people to ask if they're happy with their current speeds. If yes, then no action is required at this time though the option is there for the future.

If they're a PlusNet customer and want faster speeds then they will have to change ISP.

They would then need to check their contract termination date to decide whether to wait until then or incur cancellation charges. I've seen on another forum that if a PlusNet customer moves to BT or EE FTTP then any termination charges are waived - I can't vouch for this.

With FTTP an ONT is installed inside the customers property. While I'm not certain whether the old style is still in use the following links show pictures of the ONT.

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2019/09/a-look-at-openreachs-compact-fttp-broadband-ont-and-mi...

Finally, although the equipment is being installed it's any bodies guess as to when FTTP becomes available to order.

@snadge  @rosmith52

OK, so it appears "talk" has begun on PlusNet offering FTTP this summer.

See post #53 on the following thread

Re: FTTP Avialabilty

Even if PN do decide - it's not much use when BTOR can't even work out if they are going to provide it...
