FTP to webspace failing password

I haven't used my webspace for a couple of years and meantime migrated to FTTC which may (or not) be relevant,

I am now getting a password failure:

martin # ftp ftp.plus.net

Maybe needs a resync with my PN password?

Sounds like that could be the problem, also after doing a quick search, it seems PlusNet only offer web space to Business Accounts now. I'm assuming you're a residential customer? Though the storage and data transfer rates are so derisory at 250Mb, I wouldn't touch that with a bargepole and bother and look elsewhere for web hosting how.

Been a while since I've used web hosting, if that is what you're using it for that or just data storgage there are plenty of external options you'd neer to pay for. If you're using the PlusNet domain, then you'll have the fun and games of changing your DNS A record which shouldn't be too bad.

I am sure people can give advise on that if you need to.

Thanks Alex, I'm hoping a PN staffer will pick it up or I'll call in to log a problem tomorrow.

I'm a long-standing residential customer and still have the web space and domain hosting from the good old days when that came as part of the service. Speed etc isn't that important to me any more so I'll just get access again for now.

I'm just thinking if you've made a product upgrade after some time then it may have disabled that component now and hopefully someone can help.

I had a similar problem.... after 10 years away from the website hosted by Plusnet...

the answer is to try resetting your password by going Here

You will get an emailed linky... which is valid for one hour... to change your password...

then you should wait for about an hour or so for it to become effective...

It will also mean your email password is changed and you may have to reset that if your defaullt email address is the default mailbox

Thanks, I tried that but the password reset failed.

I called support (Beth) and it failed for her also. She tried to fob me off on "unsupported service" but if the password reset fails for the main website that can't be ignored!

Apparently PN are having "system issues" and I am advised to try again later...

Fortunately I'm not in a rush.

Reset of the password succeeded this time and works into PN's web site.

However my ftp access is still denied. I think I need somebody in 2nd line (do PN still have 2nd line) to sort it out as Beth didn't seem to understand me.

OK all is well🤗

ftp.plus.net has synced after about 1/2 hour and I can now log in.

The problem was when I tried earlier to change my PN password their systems were not working properly so couldn't change.

Obviously it takes time for the change to propagate through to the ftp server.

@mbeenham   There is usually a "delay" of about an hour or so, from the time you change your password, to the time it is actually "active" on PlusNet sites...

Yes, I do know that the syncs get propagated - probably on a cron job, but got sidetracked with all the faffing about with the helpdesk.

Anyway, I've put my password back now and its all synced up to the ftp server so I'm a happy bunny.

Thanks again for the hint to try changing my password - if PN's systems had not stopped me changing it this morning all would have been fixed straight away.
