Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

Hi all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

As a long term business user I'm having to leave plusnet, so on the advice of Rosie on plusnet help I have started a new residential account which i was told we could use and simply transfer domain hosting and emails across!

This of course was incorrect and I'm now having to transfer out my two domains to another host.

I requested authorisation codes from plusnet... but they tell me my old business account has been closed and they can't get access to the codes?

This can't be right surely... can someone please advise, Thank you

@helpmeplease Rubbish! they are still the registrar and are obliged to enable the transfer.

Are the domains .uk ones ? in which case you don't need authorisation codes, just the IPSTAG changing to the new registrar

If they aren't .uk then the only issue would be that the email registered for domain communication may no longer be functional

Re: Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

Thank you, yes you're right, the first two guys on help desk said the account is locked and they couldn't do anything.... in desparation thought I'd have one last go and this time got through to a lovely young lady who said " no problem, I'll fill in the necessary forms for you and IT will do the rest"

You're only as good as your people... how true.

Yes one is a .com which needed an authorisation code.

Thanks again for you input, much appreciated... I'll keep my fingers crossed all goes through!

Kind regards

Re: Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

Glad you are (hopefully) sorted.

The problem is that domain hosting is a (very) legacy facility, not many general  helpdesk staff are aware of its existence , let alone how to request transfers. Usually one of the more experiened team who monitor these forums will spot these sort of requests and help to process them with the correct team (NetOPS)

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

Seems I spoke to soon!

Plusnet now say my domains are not hosted by them?

So... spoke to Eco Hosting (who we are going to use to host) for advice, they said it's registered with Tucows/Enom.

Spoke to Tucows/Enom who said its registered with them through one of their resellers, plusnet.

Tucows gave me an email to contact....hostmaster@plus.net.

E-mailed hostmaster@plus.net, who told me to "please raise a request via your plusnet Internet Service"!

Back where I started... what a nightmare!

Please anyone with any ideas!

Kind regards

Re: Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

Fix

Hi @helpmeplease  I'm here to get this sort.

I'm going to pop you a private message to get which domains you want to transfer out and also the ISPTAGs for each domain. I'll then get this sent off for you and monitor this until we've got confirmation that they've been transferred.

If this post resolved your issue please click the 'This fixed my problem' button

Re: Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

@ClaudiaG23 it would seem from previous posts that only one of the domains is .uk so will use the IPSTAG change method, the other is a .com which will require an EPP code

Re: Domain names - authorisation code - Plusnet unable to supply?

To @helpmeplease

In case you weren't aware, it's customary on these forums, to accord the 'fix' to the person who sorted things out (not to oneself).

If you might be able to move the 'fix' to @ClaudiaG23 's post at #7 above, that would be appreciated.

I've no idea of the mechanics of moving the fix (not a techie), but I'd hazard a guess that your last post will have an option to remove the fix, and then you'd be able to reallocate it.

@Penny A long time since I've had need to award a fix on here, but if I spot one wrongly allocated, I usually just report it and let the mods do the honours.😀
