Deleting IPcam files

I inadvertently left an IPcam configured to save snapshots to a NAS drive.

The destination folder contained 661,974 files and I decided to delete them.

Selecting the folder I 'right clicked' and selected 'Delete'.

15 minutes later nothing was happening so I cancelled the process and went to the next up folder.

There has to be a quicker way.

are you doing it across the network?

if so can you not remote on to the nas box using ssh / telnet and delete directly. that should be much quicker.

Yes I am but I'm not sure the NAS supports telnet.

When deleting files in windows it transfers data to the recycle bin which can take time over a network. If you are absolutely sure you want to completely delete them, you could try the SHIFT + DEL key combination. Hopefully that will speed up the process?

Things are now progressing better...

BTW @dvorak the NAS doesn't support telnet. My Synology does but not this WD Book thingy.

I've got a WD My Book Live Duo and can access that using SSH/SFTP.

Let me know if you need more info.

Last night I took the NAS drive to pieces and extracted the HD.

I then connected it directly to my PC but unfortunately neither Windows nor Ubuntu was able to read the contents of the drive.

It is now back on my network minus it's casing and I'm in the slow process of copying as much as possible onto my Synology NAS.

Shouldn't take more that 3 days.
