My parents are with Virgin Media for broadband and phone, their number is used for lots of hospital services due to medical issues.
They now have FTTP in the area so want to move however their next door neighbour is needing the lawn dug up for their FTTP.
So I wondered could they order Plusnet Full fibre with phone and port the VM phone number later on after the service is connected and working?

Plusnet do not offer a digital phone service, you will have to chose someone else or go for a VoIP service provider
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Not looking for the emergency backup line they are just attached to the phone number and the hassle to change it if needed.

You can no longer order an analogue phone service from any provider anymore, all phone services are now internet based.

You'll need to speak to VM to find out if the number can be ported.
As stated PlusNet do not offer VOIP so an independant VOIP supplier would need to be found (before any other action is taken).
Is the VM service provided over the OR network or via the VM network? If hte latter then you have time to sort out VOIP as the OpenReach install should not touch the VM network. You could get FTTP installed and then look at porting the number. once you're ready to close the VM account.

Although you haven't been able to order a phone service for a while existing customers can continue as is until the PSTN shutdown or PN pull the plug - whichever comes first.
Hence the Help pages still cover phones.

Here it implies you can still order s phone with broadband, it's only when you click that link does it explain you can't.

As has been stated, unfortunately Plusnet,no longer offer a new phone connection. If you speak to Plusnet they will point you to EE, but the vast majority of ISPs can offer a digital phone add on service.
There is also the possibility of using a third party VoIP provider, but that is more difficult to manage as you are dealing with two different companies.
Reading between the lines, is there any relevance in you mentioning that the neighbour is having their lawn dug up for FTTP installation? If you are thinking that maybe the two jobs could be combined, I suspect that this is very unlikely due to the processes and separate organisations involved. In my case an Openreach employee came and surveyed the route and marked the lawn, ready for a team of subcontaractors to do the digging and duct installation some time later. However it might be worth photographing the route of the duct in case it could be tapped into at some future date.
My advice would be to wait until near the end of any VM contract then sigh up with an ISP of your choice who will install FTTP and transfer the phone in one hit with no loss of phone service.
Once the new service is up and rumming remember to cancel the VM service, this is not automatically cancelled as with other transfers.

It SHOULD be cancelled automatically now, if the OTS (One touch switch) system is used. Although I've seen a couple of posts recently where VM claim not to have been informed that the switch was complete.
