Hi
Is there a problem with ftp.plus.net? I have 3 webcams uploading images and all three stopped uploading on Thursday 23rd October at 3.34am.
Today I tried to connect via ftp client and it won't connect, see attachment.
I can connect to my Plusnet cgi webspace just fine using the same ftp client (Filezilla).
Pages on my webspace are also loading just fine via http. However via https my webcam images and guestbook (ccgi) aren't loading.
Thanks in advance for any help
Regards
Gavin.

Hi @madgav
That time would correlate with a “transparent” infrastructure change. Seems for you, it was not transparent.
I will check my connection too!
@dave does this fall into your lap (in Tony’s absence) please?

I also am having ftp problems on ftp.plus.net. I use my webspace to host my weather station (Cumulus) and since 23rd October at 10.25 I no longer manage to upload my data.
On accessing the ftp site via winscp I get the error
Timeout detected. (control connection)
Connection failed.

Hi,
A couple of quick questions, how often are your devices logging in? There is a lockout if you try and login I think more than 5 times in 5 minutes.
Second are you using active or passive FTP? I've done some testing and seen that passive sometimes works better, my testing using the work VPN which also has NAT definitely was better using passive for example.

Hi All and thanks for the replies.
My three webcams are each uploading an image once a minute. So that is definitely more than 5 times in 5 minutes. However at least two of these cameras have been active since 2017 and the uploads have worked fine until last Thursday.
The webcams seem to be uploading in active mode (passive mode not ticked).
I have just checked Filezilla and it's connecting in its default mode, which I believe is passive. It still won't connect.
Thanks
Gavin.

So I've increased the upload interval on my webcams from 1 minute to 10 minutes. Still none of them will connect to ftp.plus.net.
Filezilla will not connect either.
It's been over a week now - can anyone at PN provide any assistance?
Thanks
Gavin.

After checking some of my setting I have changed cumulus to only upload every 5 minutes and also turned off active FTP and so far there has been no uploads since i lost the access on 23rd October.

Typical, you post something and then it appears fixed! Rebooted some equipment and FTP access has returned. Think I tried this originally but this time it appears to have worked.
Don't know if it was changing cumulus to passive (its worked for years with real time and active FTP enabled) or something else but its now uploading as it should.

Glad you have got sorted (maybe). Sounds like the 5 minute lockout may have been at least part of your issue. It seems to have been mine. I first of all set my cameras to upload once every 10 minutes instead of once a minute, this didn't work as every time an upload failed it retried every 30 seconds - so it still locked out permanently at some point.
As a workaround I have set the cameras to send the images to my personal webserver rather than upload them to my plusnet webspace. This has allowed me to return to one minute update intervals.
I can now connect normally to ftp.plus.net using Filezilla.
I don't know what, if any, solution to the issue is likely to be possible. I can stick with the current setup if need be, but I'd prefer the images to be hosted on my plusnet webspace rather than on my webserver.
