Bandwidth

Uploading webcam for most of the day with each file about 30kb. I have been setting it to 10 seconds updates. How does this work out with bandwidth used? I was thinking of adding an additional webcam but will wait until I clarify the situation.
TIA - Mick

Re: Bandwidth

10 sec update works out to 259200 kb per day = 8 meg a month, but who will access it?, that has been a downfall for a lot of users, try to pick  strange name, and the robot searchers probably wont be interested.

Re: Bandwidth

It is linked with a ship plotter group and is intended mainly for local folk who want to know what is happening with the ferries etc. Some folk who have a local interest in the area have also asked if the seals start pupping just below us that we put a webcam on them.
What's the limit on uploaded data? I only use a fraction of my download allowance but not sure how uploading counts.

Re: Bandwidth

the only restriction is the speed, and that depends on what packet you are on and how PN class it, some at 380 kb, some 440, some 800, p2p as low as 50

Re: Bandwidth

I am on PlusNet Broadband Your Way Option 2 - Usually get between 6400 & 7100kbps download and 2400 & 3200 upload according to speedtest.net which I think is quite good as we are on one of orkney's small islands.
Thanks for the info by the way, it's a great help.

Re: Bandwidth

Re: Bandwidth

Back to the first question, it is a total of all traffic to PN, your upload and download, and access to your web site.
Also out of interest, I was up near the Western Isle recently and using the facilities of my host, so sign of it on my usage for that two weeks!!!
