Are directory names somehow vetted?

I've recently reorganised my web-space, and i'm having trouble accessing one of the documents (or the directory containing the documents).
The address i'm trying to reach is http://www.agedhippy.plus.com/hermes/virgin/virgin_index.html - but all i get is the message:

e5 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /hermes/virgin/virgin_index.html on this server. 0

Is it because i have badly-formed the links? am i missing something obvious? or is the word "virgin" somehow forbidden?
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Incidentally, the "virgin" referred to is a work named "The Virgin of the World" it is a Hermetic work - with no sexual content whatsoever.

Incidentally, i use Firefox, but i've also tried it with Konqueror, Flock, and Iceape - with the same result.

Try just renaming the virgin folder to say fred and see if you can access the file - also rename the file to fred.html. If you get the same error then it's not related to the name.
Also make sure the permissions on the virgin directory are 755 and on the file itself.
Finally, create a blank index.html file and put it in each of the directories you don't have an index file in to stop the directory listings occurring allowing others to see exactly what you have in your webspace.

Unless you have changed it since the last post there isnt a directory virgin the virgin files are in

you do get a 403 error on these files

Thanks for the suggestion, i've re-named the directory to "x", and the .index to "x_index.html", and i get: "You don't have permission to access /hermes/x/x_index.html on this server".
I can access it with no problem using Konqeror as an ftp client (the way i upload stuff), but even if i copy-and-past the address into Firefox, i get the "Forbidden" message.
Permissions are - as far as i can see, the same as the other directories:
"Owner can View and Modify Content
Group can View Content
Others can View Content."
I should have re-loaded the page, shouldn't i.

I'd changed it to try an experiment -- which didn't work.
If the word "virgin" is the problem i can't change the name of the treatise, it is - after all - a major work.
I shall have to dream up some alternative options tonight.

I found that the permissions were changed for the files, but not the directory, for whatever reason.
Everyone except the owner was "Forbidden", so i've reset them all to "Can Read", and the problem is cured.

You have settled a query I have had for a year.  We rented a holiday let in Cornwall that had l lot of peculiar art object, in the corner of the bedroom was this

Are these images relevant to the OP origin question about directory names?

It puzzles me that the permissions for the files themselves were somehow changed, but not for the directory.
It had occurred to me that it was censorship by Plusnet, but that was just paranoia on my part.
One of life's little mysteries....

The first of your pictures, if that's the one at the bottom of your first post (No. 7) it is unfamiliar to me.... the image which appears on the index page of "The Virgin of the World" is an Egyptian statue of Isis feeding Her son Horus (a prototype Madonna and child).
The others you posted are also unfamiliar to me....

I would have said that the first one was an interpretation of Isis, All I know is that it was in my bedroom and 3 ft tall
